Wolf Awareness Week

Wolf Awareness Week is almost here!
Festivities begin this Sunday, October 17th, and last until Saturday, October 23rd.

Use this week to reflect and pay homage to our not-so-distant cousins in the wild.

For more information and lists of local zoos housing wolves and hosting seminars, visit the Defenders of Wildlife website:

Re: Wolf Awareness Week

Speedbump that is too cool, I went to the website and looked for the the events in my area and it said the wolf event here is already over with, so I guess my area is behind the times on "wolf awareness week."  Like Redstreak, I too have a ton of t-shirts, but only one has a wolf on it but I have about 12 others with werewolves on them.  Hey, maybe we should start our own tradition of an awareness week called "werewolf awareness week," ha, ha, then I can wear all my werewolf t-shirts (like 2 a day so I can wear them all in a week's time, ha, ha).  Too cool you posted that Speedbump!

Re: Wolf Awareness Week

Speedbump, if you are declaring that week to be "werewolf awareness week" open up a new forum for it and everyone can post in it what they are doing dujring that week.  I'll do my part to support your week (like wear my werewolf t-shirts and watch some werewolf movies too), so go ahead and open up a forum to declare that week and then people can post in it all the werewolf related things they are doing that week, cool idea!

I'll need to see if I can get my WW:TA game group together this week as a further means of celebrating Wolf Awareness Week. big_smile  I'm even getting an idea for a game that we could play! smile

Re: Wolf Awareness Week

Werewolves tend to have their own Werewolf Awareness Weeks. They're called the annual regional Howls. Of course, if you wanted to instigate a national Werewolf Awareness Week, you could throw a series of Howls that week. Just say "food". That should get their attention.

smile

Seriously though, just before the SEHowl, I always put on my Werewolf desktop themes, play my Werewolf music CDs and sound files and become extemely uncivilized. My coworkers avoid me the week before the howl.

Re: Wolf Awareness Week

Today I've started Farley Mowat's Never Cry Wolf (I figured what better time than today, right?) That's the only wolf-related I did for Wolf Awareness Week, but I tried scanning some wolf drawings I did last week but they didn't save very well so I'm going to try again later. I think I'll probably post a bulletin on MySpace announcing Wolf Awareness Week, too! This'll be fun! Now to plan the rest of my week, lol

Re: Wolf Awareness Week

I was in Auburn last weekend visiting a friend (my long time hiking companion) and we went to a Mexican Restaurant. He told the waitress that my name is "Wolf" and (my Spanish isn't all that good) I thought he told her that I was a Werewolf. First, a lot of Mexicans believe in Werewolves, and, second, they don't like them. But I curbed my instinct to go diving under tables on the way out and things turned out okay. I was wearing my black wolf shirt, though. The meal was exquisite - they called it texan Fajita but it had beef, chicken, and shrimp in it and - Woof!............

Re: Wolf Awareness Week

O.k., "wolf awareness week" ended, did anyone do anything special?  I didn't wear a wolf shirt at all during the week like I had originally planned, but I did go to the zoo and hung out by the wolves in their habitat there for a good part of the day today (which is technically two days after "wolf awareness week" ended, but hey, I thought it was a cool way to acknowledge it).

Re: Wolf Awareness Week

mmmmm....yeah. I did wear a wolf shirt. It's my black one with a wolf's face that takes up the whole front and a nice pack scene with a full moon on the back.

Well, I saw a real live wolf at the Wildlife art show last Saturday (Oct. 22) but was not allowed to touch it due to  some new law that forbids any touching on the wolf by the public except for the wolf's handers.

(Though I was told that I can visit the same wolf at a sanctuary where it came from so I might do that
soon)
