Werewolf Book Group

Hello all!

Grayle and I have been having some interesting conversations via e-mail about Werewolf books we've both read.  We thought it would be fun to expland this to include anyone else who would be interested.  Our first attempt, with the book Blood and Chocolate, met with less than an overwhelming response, and we thought this might have been because we didn't really make any announcements beforehand.  Because we both still think it would be really cool to have a sort of discussion/book club thing, we thought we'd try again.  This time, we we decided we'd let anyone who's interested have a say in which book we choose.

We've come up with two options, although if anyone else has something we might have missed, feel free to post that as well.  People who are interested can vote, and after a week or so, simple majority would decide which title we'd read.  Once everyone has had time to find and read the book, we can start sharing our thoughts here.

The choices we've found so far are:

Benighted, by Kit Whitfield, published in 2006.

By These Ten Bones, by Claire B. Dunkle, published in 2005.

Here are some links to Amazon.com, where you can read reviews of the books, and even buy them if you wish.

Benighted

By These Ten Bones

If anyone else knows of any books, feel free to share them!

I, for one, vote for Benighted.  I've always enjoyed detective stories more than romances.

'OK, how about werewolves?' said the voice eventually.
'What do they look like?' asked the kid.
'Ah, well, they look perfectly normal right up to the point where they grow all, like, hair and teeth and giant paws and leap through the window at you,' said the voice.

Re: Werewolf Book Group

After reading the reviews on these two books, I have to say that Benighted sounds quite a bit more interesting. The setting itself is rather unique compared to 'the same old thing,' which is where I'd list By these ten bones.

I vote for Benighted too.

Anybody else?

Fifty views, and one response...  Doesn't look too good for the Werewolf Book Group.

Re: Werewolf Book Group

Okay, so everyone not reading this book is really missing out.  I'm about halfway through, and I'm enjoying it immensely.  I'm not sure if Grayle has gotten his copy, but if he's been reading it, I'm sure he'll agree.

Re: Werewolf Book Group

Yay! I Have my copy of Benighted! And it's not borrowed from the Library; I bought it!
It's mine! All Mine! Hahahahaha!

I've reached chapter 8 so far, and I am really enjoying the insights and trials that the main character and her people are forced to deal with, due to the circumstances.
I figure I'll give it one more weekend, and we can start a WBG topic on the book itself. I agree with Niktoma - If you haven't read this book, you're probably missing out - kinda like if you haven't read Murcheston: the Wolf's tale, but that's a book for another time.
And there's also questions for discussion in the back! Oh, that's gonna be fun! Of course, it would be even more fun if there were a few others reading the book too... Hint hint hint... Wink wink, nudge nudge... say no more, just get the book...

Just tripped over that the other day - it's on my Wishlist now big_smile

It's funny, never been all that interested in Benighted. I think because in it, werewolves are kinda the 'norm'. And I like my wolves to be anything but normal. smile But if you guys keep raving about it, I might have to pick it up!!

Re: Werewolf Book Group

From reading the reviews, I vote on Benighted. I'm going to add it on my reading list(which never seems to end -.-)

Through the wreckage of the death of the day
Scent of silence under starlight spinning
A captured beast within a human skin

Okay, I brought back this thread from the 'forum graveyard' for a newer member. Perhaps does anyone have any ideas as to what we should read next?

Re: Werewolf Book Group

ooooooh....a book club would be fun ! *scrambling for my Barnes & Nobles charge card*

Should there be any criteria on the books??  I'm assuming werewolf related some how. But should go pick horror or humor, any age restrictions, or is a "gratuitous sex" chapter out??

And don't suggest the Twilight Series.....I was rooting for the werewolf to eat the vampire !
