Another question, will your stories have the same type of feel as the classic Monsters stories or will they run the gambit?
Well, without a doubt the Universal Horror films of the 1930's and 40's are a huge influence on my work. But I am also heavily inspired by a lot of the exploitation horror films made in America and Europe between the 1960's and 1980's, which tend to put a lot more emphasis on graphic violence and sexuality. I love the visual style of the Universal films but I also like the harder edged content in the later American and European horror films.
Still, I do have a certain line of morality that I won't cross. So, most of the time, there is a spooky, playful, good old fashioned Halloweeny innocence to Wulf and Batsy, but then there are moments of crazy, excessive gore or sexiness that will remind you of something out of a Hammer movie or a Dario Argento film.

That's good. It's nice you're respecting the old school work from the Universal films, but also bringing it more modern with the styles that's out today. It's also good that you do have a line that you won't cross. Some artists and comic books tend to go past that line and that's a major turnoff in my opinion.
Now for one of my favorite parts of werewolves: the transformations.
Will we see detailed transformations in this comic, or will it depend on how the story's going? Also, has those type of scenes changed greatly from the one shot you drew before to what you're working with now?

How come Wulf & batsy is coming out next year and not this year?
Also will Wulf exhibit new abilities that has never before has been seen on a werewolf?
1. Because that was the date the publisher came up with, according to what fit into the printing schedule they already had going with all their other books.
2. Nothing too outlandish. But I do enjoy digging deep into the legends and mythology surrounding various monsters and finding obscure old beliefs about them, that I can use in my comics.

To respond, again, one-by-one...
1. Yeah, I do have a certain "moral code" as to what I am, and am not, opposed to showing in a comic. If you look at the illustrations page on my website cryptlogic.net you will see this "moral code" in action. But I will be the first to admit it is a very screwy, weird moral code that probably only makes sense to me! To put it simply, it's similar to what you see in the 1980's horror movies I grew up on as a kid. Blood and guts runs rampant, but it's mostly just silly gross out stuff, rather than a serious minded effort to show cruelty or brutality. And a certain amount of teasy nudity and sex is okay but only as long as its kept under control and in good taste. However - I don't think gore should ever be done in good taste. In my opinion, trying to do gore in good taste IS in bad taste!
2. Detailed transformations: Yes, because The Howling was always my #1 favorite werewolf movie, closely followed by An American Werewolf in London, so I am crazy about elaborate transformation scenes. BUT - I won't do it that way every time because then it would get boring. So I save the elaborate transformations for the big dramatic moments and the rest of the time, play it down, like it'll happen in the shadows or "off screen". That's been my strategy all along so it hasn't changed since I did the one-shot.
And by the way, these are some great questions!

Sounds like it's going to be a really cool comic book, can't wait 'til it comes out! Thank you for all the insight on it! So do you collect anything related to this genre like comics, action figures, DVDs and/or etc.? Are the characters Wulf and Batsy modeled after any people you know (like hints in their personality traits or the way you draw their looks)?

Yep, I collect all that kinda stuff.
I will answer your second question with a vague "yes and no"... and just let you wonder. Haha.

Hey guys. A website called Comic Bloc just posted a brand new (and quite long and in-depth!) interview with me, talking about my comic book, "Wulf and Batsy" which comes out in 2008 from Viper Comics. Here's the link...

I hope you'll check it out!

Wulf and Batsy looks great. Is Batsy vampire I presume?

Saw her (and Wulf too) in PREVIEWS so yes she is.

Thanks! And to answer your question: yes, Batsy is the vampire. Wulf is the werewolf.

I gotta get to the comic store - I haven't seen the new Previews yet. Hopefully I will before the end of the week!

Hey Bryan, just read the article in ComicBloc and you're right, it's very long and in-depth... and fascinating as well! A very good read. I had no idea you got that many stories involving the characters in advance.
Will the issues be more like one shot episodes, have a continuing storyline, short episodes (like two or three in each issue) or are they all of the above?
Anyway, I enjoyed looking at the sneak preview as well as reading the article and can't wait to check it out!

It's a series made up of mini-series. That is to say, the first storyline is 2 issues long. The second storyline is 3 issues long. The third major storyline is 6 issues long. The next one after that is another 3 issue story. These are the ones I have already finished or which are all planned out.
The only thing I'm not sure about yet, is how far into the future Viper will want to go with this series. As of now, they are talking about definitely doing 5 issues (which will contain the first two major storylines). At that point, they will decide whether to keep going or not, based on sales.
If it sells well, you will probably see more Wulf and Batsy after #5. If it bombs, I'll have to come up with some other plan.

Ever thought of pitching wulf & batsy to a network, producer, etc as a animated tv series, or quite possibly a movie?
