Re: Do you believe werewolves ever existed? Where did the idea come from?

I liked Bad Moon (although ithad that made-for-TV feel to me) and the Werewolf did look nice (except foR the transformation scene). but the Werewolf, as a human, made me feel like I wanted to go and take a shower with a strong antiseptic body wash. Blech!

Re: Do you believe werewolves ever existed? Where did the idea come from?

I like "Bad Moon" too (I own it on DVD).  I tried to get the book "Thor" (the book that the movie was based on), but it was not available at the time I looked, so I'll have to check again.

NinjaWolf, I highly recommend "Cycle of the Werewolf" (it is a quick read), and I also recommend the paperback copy of the original book "The Howling."  These books are better than the movies (if you're a reader).

There is a book on "The Howling"?!? Now I'm interested! big_smile I'll be looking for that Stephen King book, too.

Yay! 'Bout time they issued a release date for that. The nice, old lady that runs our local comic shop couldn't dig up any info on that comic for me.

Re: Do you believe werewolves ever existed? Where did the idea come from?

The Howling book that I had (must have been well over 20 years ago) was pretty much an anthology. It was related to the movies but I haven't recognized any of the stories in the movies yet. I remember it being pretty well written, though (as pulp goes).

Re: Do you believe werewolves ever existed? Where did the idea come from?

WVZ, The first book "The Howling" is closest to the 4th Howling movie titled "The Howling 4: Original Nightmare," and the book is second closest to the first movie (so, the first movie was based on the book, but the 4th movie was closest to the story of that book).

I just checked for the book "Thor" at amazon.com aga in and the cheapest used paperback edition is $23.00 right now.  New copies are still unavailable there (they would be $5.99 if they had them in stock).  The author of that book is Wayne Smith by the way.

Busboy, I saw "Cycle of the Werewolf" on the stands, but didn't have money to pick it up right now. What is the author of "The Howling"? Do you remember? If you can look it up, I'll try to find it at a used bookstore I know of. Thanks! big_smile

Re: Do you believe werewolves ever existed? Where did the idea come from?

One thing I liked about the Howling book I had is that there was one chapter where, instead of screaming and running when he saw a Werewolf, one mundane talked calmly to a young Werewolf and they became friends. It's one of those stories that takes Werewolves out of the "mindless monster" category.

Well I managed to get some Werewolf by Night and Man-Wolf comics and both are well over 30 years.  I think there may be a chance of finding the book still. wink

NinjaWolf, "The Howling" books were written by Gary Brandner.  You can pick up a used copy from amazon.com for $2.25

This might shock you but, according to many many books and programs i've watched, wolves are one of our closest relations, even closer than apes. *shocking i know*

He he, that reminds me, a gorilla threw some poo at my dad in the zoo once. And being closely related to wolves makes sense actually, they have leaders (much like government and royals), they are very social, they have a wide range of facial expresions and their body structure isn't all that different to humans if you compare bones and stuff.

I know what you mean. In fact, Crosswalk is better than most on both accounts, so that's why I stay off the others. There are a couple of Christian Goth boards that I haunt nowdays and there are about 3 other Christian boards that I go to occassionally. Frankly, there's way too much bickering on the others.

I had a run in with a board callled ExWitch recently. I kept seeing Therians say things like "I rejected my Wereside for the Lord" and such and the admins were saying, "You can't be Were and Christian," so I very loudly proclaimed that there's no conflict between Christianity and Wereism and, since they couldn't counter me, they banned me.....which s alright because they let slip on the email they sent me that all the Therians started saying "If VanZandt's a Werewolf and a christian, I can be too." So my work was done there.  smile

But really it's no laughing mmatter, Sites like that (That's ExWitch E...x...W...i...t...c...h) are dangerous to young, inexperienced Weres. A Therian can't just get rid of their Wereside; it's an essential part of them. If they repress it, they begin having all kinds of neurotic problems. It ain't pretty. But where ExWitch banned me; Crosswalk stuck with me. So I'm staying there for the time being. There's serious problems in the church and if nobody confronts them, the problems won't go away.

that's interesting Wolf.. and not how I remember it at all. smile

Hey, I'm just going by what the moderator told me happened after I left. Where did I get the story wrong?
