Re: Physical Therian topics

I think it would be an interesting experiment to give a therian a CAT scan (is that the right one?  I'm no doctor) while they are going through a mental shift to see if the therian uses parts of their brain in ways that non-therians don't.

Savage from the late Werelist was doing that with another neuropsychologist.  Not sure what came of it though...

Re: Physical Therian topics

What would really be interesting would be a PET scan or a SPECT scan. Cat scans show structural details. These other imaging techniques show functional changes. Dr. Daniel Amen in Calfornia does a lot of work in that area and has a good website.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up for me WVZ.  It looks like a very interesting topic of study.

I've had some kind of scan done on me when I was 6 or 7 years old.  Don't know what kind though.  All I remember was they glued wires on my head in different places and told me to lie still for a long time.  When it was over I had a terrible migrane!!  They gave my dad a long sheet of paper with wavy lines on it.  Didn't understand it though.  I lost that paper with the brain scans.
Does anyone know what kind of scan that was?  My Dads old and he proberly don't remember but I'm gonna ask about it sometime.

The reason I think for the brain scan was either to find out why I was slow in school.  Didn't really start talking till I was about four or five.  Or perhaps due to having a deformity in my skull that I was born with.

Sounds like an electroencephalogram (EEG).

that sounds familiar... that was what they called it when they tried it out on me. Would have been about 20 years ago. I think they wanted to try to find out why I had regular headaches and possibly also why I had a nasty temper. Never got anything back from them though, either I was too normal for them to care or so warped I broke the machine. But seeing as I've still got the headaches (throw Disprin at them and they go away) and the temper (stomp on it and it goes away) and I'm still around so obviously whatever it was, wasn't all that harmful.

It seems very strange that a company would perform a test on you and then not inform you of the results.  I hope they didn't make you pay for it.  I would have refused payment until I recieved a copy of the results.

Re: Physical Therian topics

I had an MRI a few years ago after having migraines back to back over a weekend (joyous!), and the eye doc I went to see got all worried about me and said 'just to be safe' I should have it done. Odd experience, and the only results I got back where 'some unusual white matter' but that I was otherwise clear. Personally I think the migraines are linked to anger issues. I haven't had one for a few months now wink

Perhaps I could get a copy of that paper at the hospital if they still have those records.
It would be interesting for me to see it.

Re: Physical Therian topics

I would like to see it Siver - could you bring it to the Howl if you get a copy? I've had some training in reading them (and have since completely forgotten - but I still have the text books......)

Wolfy, usually, if a doctor performs tests and they don't find anything remarkable, you don't hear from them unless you ask. Many people never find out what causes their headaches - they're fortunate if they find something that will control them. Since specialists have developed in the field, more people are getting actual diagnoses and headaches are becoming better understood. In the past, the EEG was the only way they had of probing the brain, now they have all kinds of imaging techniques.

WVZ's on the right track. Also there were no companies involved - this was the public health system - the only payment involved was the GP consultation fee at the start of it all. Unless you count the taxes I pay towards the health system.

Ah, I see.  That all makes sense now that I think about it, as long as the test results were normal.  I just was thinking of how frustrating it would be to be worried about some health issue and then not hear back from your doctors.

Ok, i thought i would post this because 1. I know that therians are animals in human bodies but...what if the animal starts becoming more then just the "Who you are" and the human side starts going away?

My body has gone throught alote of changes but none the most disturbing then the changing of my eyes from the brightest blue to the dullest grey, and my hair going from bright blond to my current dark brown. My teeth, have also started getting a problem. They used to just be unusually sharp and longish, but now, they are almost poking out of my mouth. Its wierd. Ill notice it only when im really into something emotional and deep. My teeth will be long, very long and sharper. My hair will seem longer, more scattered, and muscles will get biger and its almost like i am taller. My nails have started growing at an unusuall rate also. Ill cut them one day, two days later they grow right back. The only thing i can get is...maybe i am starting to grow out of this infernal human body?....hopfully

just like your thingy at the bottom says that human kind has to get back in touch with nature, you have to get back in touch with humanity. but i wouldnt worry tho. your either not going to change more or your just learning how to shift fully into the animal with which you are affiliated

Re: Physical Therian topics

It is very frustrating, Wolfy. That's why it's important at the outset to develop a relationship with your doctor so that you can make it known that you do want to know about results, regardless of whether they're normal or not and that you're both comfortable with you asking questions. Often, to get results, you have to ask.

Re: Physical Therian topics

Hmmm...well animal-666, most of what you said does sound like just puberty.  Actually, the only thing that doesn't sound like puberty to me are the headaches.  Those sound like migranes.  I have a few family members that get those, and they can be so bad that they make them physically sick.  I know that people get them for different reasons, and I unfortunately couldn't begin to tell you why you might be having them.  I would consider asking your doctor, I would imagine your parents know about them?  The temper sounds like it could be hormones, if you're not prone to haveing a short fuse already.

Anyway, I'm not a therian so telling you that I didn't go through what you have described, at least not in the same way, probably won't be all that helpful to you.  I myself have never been one to get sever headaches and I have always had a nasty temper.  Heh, especially around age 13 or so.

P.S.  Thanks WVZ, I'll remember that for in the future.
