i use photoshop cs3 and a wacom intuos3 graphics tablet and a brush of my own design.
but in photoshop i can set the brush/ tablet to "pen pressure" that that gives me a a line that will taper at both ends if i use the pen correctly.
as for my brush it looks like a load of random dots, but with the "pen pressure" that changes the the dots to like 5/6 individual brushes (and it does save time) however if u use it a lot the human eye could pick up a pattern in the stroaks to u have to turn the brush around or use a single dot brush to kinda randomise it,also u need to set the opacity and flow of the brush so it dosnt look to stark.
it takes a while and its annoying at times bit it can be worth it
