Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter TV series/tv movie

Okay I see the posts on the other pages (books) but not on here. Since I'm a fan I'm posting. First off let me say, these werewolves won't be the WOLF versions but the coolest version out there!!!!! (Van Helsing, Howling, Underworld- first wolf type look). That's the good news.

The not so good news is, the werewolves don't show up until either movie 3 or Season 3.

I've heard conflicting stories about if it's going to be a tv movie or if it's going to be like True Blood and become a limited series. (Pretty much a tv version of how the comic book series is)
I'm hoping they True Blood it by dividing the book into a series of 12 episodes or maybe 8 (b/c some of the comic issues were kinda boring).

I hope it's as adult as True Blood. But I'll take a lesser version. I just read an article on her and I think if she gets her way she'll go for the "Mature Audiences" version.

I do hope she doesn't get lame (some of her articles, the things she says, now wonder it took her so long to get greenlit for stuff) and put haults on stuff but I really hope the creators and even her come up with changes to the storyline. Best example, the book starts off them going to a vampire strip club. They don't introduce the other weres until after book 2 but someone could walk by (a waiter or stripper) with cat like or wolf like eyes!!! It could totally happen!!!!

And like the alternate cover of her in color and ALL THE MONSTERS in a blue background (some with red eyes) that could be a made up intro (while showing cast and their real names) sorta like what Charlie's Angels the first movie did (made up missions just for the movie that we wished became stories done but put on the dvd) CArtoons do this sometimes.

If Mrs. Hamilton gets her way she'll go for a Blue Movies Cinema version. big_smile

What makes you think that the werewolves will be that way, did you see any concept art for them yet?

Hmmmm, the ideas of the werewolf look is based from the comic book. You're right I don't know and unless they change book one we won't know about the werewolves until book 3 movie 3/season 3.

What's blue movies cinema? x-rated? haha that won't work for ratings.

They have to be called werewolves b/c in the book there are too many shape shifters (leopards, rats, etc)

Well we have to wait and see, the thing with TV Shows is they have to cater to a budget, and that decides the look for complex FX, like Werewolves, in the end. Or how much we actually get to see in the end of the numerous beasties from the series.

I does turn porn around book eight or nine, the early ones are fun to read though.
Lot's of gratuitous violence and gore, plot is a always rather thin but the characters are fun to read.
It's pulp horror, if you don't look at them to serious and just read for entertainment value they are worth their money. Although, even in the early books she's already a tad too free with the use of sexual violence in some of her stories.

Re: Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter TV series/tv movie

well the first two books shouldn't be so F/X. It's easy stuff like eye changes or vampire quick movements (already done in other vamp movies) the werewolf costuem as I've said on posts before, a good one might cost 10k-20k (20 k is usually for all that machine movement for the head plus workers to move like the lips and stuff).  Most of this could be doable through quick camera movement shots. But as I said if it's based like each book is a movie (like Twilight or harry p) then they've got two chances to get a bigger budget for book 3 b/c that's when the crazy stuff takes place and we reallly dont' want a dumb sci fi look right.

Re: Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter TV series/tv movie

Instead of basing it from the comicbook, why not base it from the actual novels themselves?...I loved the novel, and think that "Midnight Cafe" would be perfect for the first movie/season 1

Well the comic book is pretty much a condensed version of the books. (Only two books have been turned into comics. The first, Guilty Pleasures is fantastic so if they followed this I think they'd be successful. The look of it, the feel of it, is fantasatic.)

Re: Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter TV series/tv movie

Sadly the show has been cancelled folks!!! Personally, I'd have rather had a tv series like True Blood (well in the sense of 12 hour long episodes vs. one hour long movie). Here's hoping we get a tv series. But I thought it wasn't going to happen b/c the comic series has fizzled. (Personally I stopped buying b/c of the crappy artwork. How do you have a mature comic series with kiddy cartoons. Come on!!!)

Anyway, I'm bummed. And I was feeling her when she said it was (paraphrasing) sucky to know that other books have been turned into a series that you pioneered (True Blood).

I don't know, I just don't know, this should have been on Showtime. Maybe she wanted to write the script which is a no no. She should know she's gotta give up some if not all (as long as she puts caveats) . Twilight was about to be something COMPLETELY DIFFERENT when it was gonna be from Mtv. Even when it was from Summit it was first gonna be something else until they decided to just make it like the books.

Personally being somewhat in the business, I'm pretty sure someone wanted to change something JUST BECAUSE their egos insisted on having some creativity in the matter vs. just freaking letting the story be from the books b/c it's a great story (at least guilty pleasures, my favorite).

Dag in this economy that'd have been easy money if the right investors were behind it. Duhhh look at TWilight, Harry Potter, and True Blood that kept with the material.

Now I'm pissed!

2nd edit- Okay for real, she needs to give up soem hold on these characters so she can make bank. Which would mean she'd have some money to act as a producer and thennnnn she'd have a better position than just being the nagging author wanting to be involved (you heard about stuff like this from other movies such as Blood and Chocolate)

She pioneered?
Only, if we close both eyes and completely ignore all the other authors that went over that territory before.
It's not as if she invented the genre, that's as if George Lucas was claiming to have invented Sci-Fi. tongue

Agreed, and from what I hear it's not as if she couldn't spare a couple dollars if she wants to keep control.
But that's the way it's done in the movie business, isn't it, taking other peoples money and then complain when they want to have a say in the matter for it.

There's always a risk involved with getting your work adapted to a different medium, but with the Anita Blake series I think it would be best for her to just take the money and let those do that understand the business.
She's after all not that brilliant a writer, and I doubt that she understands that she can't just waffle around for like 12 to 20 ep's the way she uses to in her books.

Still, it's a pity, I though the first books to be great and Anita sure would have made for a fun movie character.

You know what I mean!!! smile I get what you're saying though.

I don't know about that. Some people take a smaller cut to keep some creative control (don't kill this character off, this character CAN'T HOOK UP WITH THIS CHARACTER, ETC). Sorry I meant along the lines of maybe release more stuff (t-shirts, figurines, ornaments, etc) doubt it sells much so that's probably why not much is out...

I disagree with this. Personally from hearing her talk I think she's a bit much, but look what happened in Spiderman 3, they picked that Topher guy to be VENOM!!!! COME ON. So I understand wanting to be able to say NO TO THAT crap. Friday the 13th they made Jason run. NOOO NOOOO NOOO HE SHOULDN'T HAVE RUN. Jason doesn't run, he's that confident he'll catch you. So it's when peopel b.s. is when I'm on the author's side!

Still, it's a pity, I though the first books to be great and Anita sure would have made for a fun movie character.

Yeah I mean dag, it has male strippers they could have added female strippers and then hello bigger audience b/c of the sex appeal plus monster appeal= more merchandise potential b/c of all the conventions that would love to have them.... I just don't get it. Showtime or Cinemax should have picked this up, though in the season 3 how do you have good werewolves? Nah the Thundercats kids that made their indy trailer proved you can have realistic werecreatures. And so did Planet of the Apes (which is on now smile)

Re: Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter TV series/tv movie

dag still pissed but I'm looking at the werewolf designs. Does anyone have that alternate variant of #1 where it's her in color and the monsters in a blue with blue background. It looks moreso like a WOLF wolf MAN but the monsters howling at the moon on the cliff look moreso like werewolf werewolves unless they're weredogs. The Wereleopards look AWESOME though.

Someone find out, I'm not sure if this is new news or not. They seem to still be adapting a a script, so it might be shopped to other networks and stuff.
