Shifting at Will - "Wow It Feels Weird"

Well today I was out and at a book store when I randomly concentrated on my inner wolf.

A shiver went down my back,
then my teeth felt like they had grown longer and heavier even.
After about a minute the feeling disappeared.
But from then on I have been able to do it when ever.

Any opinions or other incounters of this sort?

Re: Shifting at Will - "Wow It Feels Weird"

1) To be honest Awaken, your teeth didn't actually grow. It sounds a little like a 'phantom' shift (think that's the lingo people use) where it feels like you've taken on a physical characteristic of your theriotype. But it's unusual ( or at least for me) to get a phantom shift without some sort of accompanied mental feeling, either just the presence of your 'animal' side to it actually taking over your mindset a bit.

2) If there's no feeling during these sorts of experience that the wolf in you is right beneath the surface, then I wouldn't call it a shift at all. I would call it you imagining your teeth growing longer, and as such it feels a bit like they have, in a self-hypnotic way. I mean, if you like the sensation of your teeth growing longer, by all means stick at it, but personally I think there are more fulfilling kinds of shift.

Re: Shifting at Will - "Wow It Feels Weird"

Hmm... well your theriotype doesn't depend on :
1)How much you like an animal
2)What you imagine your animal would be.

Remember that.
Get him/her to really study what they feel like.
Eventually get them to 'try on' what animal they think they are, and no it isn't like dress up. The one they think they feel like might be what they are.
Don't rely on this method tho. It only worked with me because.. um can't explain it but it has alot to do with logic, feeling and basicly a bit of psycology.

Re: Shifting at Will - "Wow It Feels Weird"

Hey Shady smile
I know it wasn't physical and there kinda was a mental feeling/state of mind. I was hunting for my sister and mom and I felt very energetic and... wolfy I suppose.

What kind of shifts you experience?

Re: Shifting at Will - "Wow It Feels Weird"

I rarely experience complete mental shifts. Just sometimes, like tonight, the feel of the wolf is so intense it feels like it might burst out, can't describe it any better than that, it's so close and affects my thought patterns so much. I guess it's a kind of shift, but I'm still in control. I make no claim to p-shift, but I do other things to bring the inside wolf out, such as wearing teeth caps to make my teeth look like wolf teeth and wolf-eye contact lenses.

Obviously, we can't really say what your friend's theriotype is, or if they even are a therian, but I guess if you want advice, the best I can give is that they need to consider what makes them think they are a therian.  Is there a specific feeling they associate with it?  Do they identify as/picture themselves as a specific animal?  Therianthropy is different for everyone though, so they may not totally match their specific animal, or they may not have one at all.

Re: Shifting at Will - "Wow It Feels Weird"

Book?!? yikes Really? Just random fiction books why??

Hmm yea...  my inner wolf wants to get out quite a lot.
But I don't let it. That would be bad seeing as I've kept it under control for so long.

Anyway, what levels of 'intensity' in shifts have you experienced, like 1-10, 10 being complete animal perspective 1 being slightly influenced.

Re: Shifting at Will - "Wow It Feels Weird"

Are you talking to me? Well, it's a silly question. Usually at base rate even when I'm not 'shifted' I have a slightly animal perspective, it's just part of me. But I couldn't 'rate' shifts based on intensity cause for me, they don't work like that. I don't sometimes feel only a bit wolf and sometimes feel 100%. If I'm shifted, I'm shifted. You can't rate things like that like a book or film.

I can't remember much. all I really remember was that my breathing kept on getting faster and faster till I was practically hyperventilating and I got this weirdish feeling all over my body. there was more but that's all I can really describe in any way.

I don't know exactly... like I say, my perspective is naturally wolflike even when I'm not shifted, so I guess when I'm shifted it just comes to the forefront more. But I don't lose my inhibitions or anything like that, I still retain mental control ultimately. I just do so as a wolf and not as a human, unsurprisingly as the legend of werewolves paints them as being mindless savage beasts, when the reality of actual wolves and by extension wolf therians is that they obviously retain control over themselves, their movements, their senses, etc.

It's difficult to say this in a way that makes sense because my wolf-side doesn't 'change' my perspective - I've always been a therian, so my perspective has always been altered by my animal side. I don't know what it is to be without it. I don't know what a 'normal human' perspective is so my perspective doesn't change. I just feel more or less engaged from the wolf side, but never entirely separate from it.
