Sketched Personas

So I originally wanted to be a graphic designer so I studied it for two years in college before I decided I really only like to draw anatomical things and just knew I would be too limited in the art field, thus why I ultimately changed my major. It's a hobby now and mostly I draw my supernatural characters, my favorite being my Werewolf Wilisa in her human form or during transformation. Mostly they are sketches. The look of a sketch just catches my fancy I suppose.

These three of her during transformation were all done on iScribble.net. I like the way things look when I draw them on the site.

Say hi to Wilisa, or Wil, my Native American Werewolf. (Also done on iScribble)

More of a fox girl, I drew this for my friend (on opencanvas) whose animal spirit is a fox (while mine is a wolf). If you can't tell I'm more into realism than I am that anime stuff.

Re: Sketched Personas

Very nicely done! I have tried several paint programs. The Gimp and Paint.net are my favorites. Both offer an incredible amount of freedom and both are free to download. My painting abilities however, are less than average. I am better in 3D programs,I do a lot of my art in Blender.

This is another friend's character and I really loved how it came out. I tend to prefer drawing for other people when I'm in the mood to draw, actually.

All of these (done on opencanvas) are my Finnish friend's characters for her fantasy novel that she lets me read as she writes it. She let me design the last two on my own. It's obvious that was a time when I was in the mood to draw. I haven't been so much in the mood lately. Some of it looks wonky because when I save stuff I draw my computer likes to mess it up just to make me mad.

Re: Sketched Personas

I love your style and would very much like to see what you can do with backgrounds. My tastes run toward art that is a little darker, do you have anything that is maybe, a drawing of someone in the dark?

The Gimp is an open source program with documentation and tutorials everywhere. You can even watch videos of the Gimp on youtube. There are plugins that can be added to the Gimp that will perform almost any task.

Re: Sketched Personas

Sadly I suck with backgrounds. I like to draw anatomy so that was my focus, but I can draw anything I see, really. I can always draw someone in the dark for you though!

Perhaps the best thing I have drawn recently. I hadn't drawn anything in almost a year then BAM! I came out with this for a Role-Play.

This is the main Elf character for my fantasy novel.

A character for a short tragedy that makes up the legends in my fantasy novel's world.

One of my favorite characters for my fantasy novel, Celebrimbor, but here he is with his deceased wife.

Re: Sketched Personas

Do you have an Elfwood or Deviant Art account? I think that you really should consider getting one if you don't already. I see a lot of drawings that are much less artistic than yours and you should continue to share.

Your pencil lines are incredibly clear and clean. The proportions are accurate and the hands look like hands. People have so much trouble with proportions and hands. Your characters have movment and do not look like 2d flat people. As I said before, I like your style.

Re: Sketched Personas

Why thank you very much!

I don't really like sharing with people I don't know unless I want to get to know them, so sites like Deviantart and Elfwood just don't interest me. And I would think that after studying art for two years I would at least be able to do SOMETHING right when drawing! haha
Sadly I haven't been in the mood to draw or I would have drawn something last night. The most recent drawings are the sketches in my first post. Everything else is from early on in the year or even last year.

This is an old concept of my character Cannibal (which is his name) and was inspired after watching Doomsday.

The original concept of Wilisa, back when she also had a different name. The clothing is much what she wears, but the hair I HAD to change. I am in love with her new hair.

Re: Sketched Personas

That was not a very popular movie but I loved it. The ending is the best ending that I've seen since Snake Pliskin  spooled out the presidents tape in Escape from New York.

I didn't feel like NOT posting this. This is by far the best thing I have ever drawn and I wish you all could see it in real life. It was the best thing to come out of art class in college (drawn in charcoal and white conte) and is a picture of my fiance.

Another charcoal and white conte drawing of my fiance for an art class, but his head wound up being disproportionate due to I had to rush it because I had fallen behind the due date. And I take that back, the best thing to come out on this one was his left hand and forearm. ugh

Re: Sketched Personas

That is without a doubt the best that you have posted so far Wow! I am intimidated by your talent. I only have three drawings that I share with people, I sem to be able to get a decent drawing on my sketch pad about once every couple of years. I am much better at modeling, sculpting and CGI. My 2d work is pathetic, if I had your talent I would turn my short stories into graphic novels.

I can usually spot mistakes in paintings and drawings but I can find no fault in the next to last post. That is a true work of art.

Re: Sketched Personas

Why thank you very much! Believe it or not art isn't my biggest passion in life. Writing is and yet that seems to take me time to get around to. As you can also tell, I prefer to draw with charcoal and getting my hands dirty a lot better than I like to use the computer. I doubt I could do a graphic novel though the thought of a webcomic has passed my mind a few times. Mostly because I work best with models than I do just drawing out of my own head.

Believe it or not, I got an A on the first piece and a C on the second (She said the background was the problem) and I quit art that semester. It had also been pissing me off that she was praising every little thing the Japanese students drew and gave me a bad grade just because 'the background was lacking'.

Re: Sketched Personas

I had a few problems with teachers as well. What kind of a grade did the drawing of your fiance get? or did she never see it?

Re: Sketched Personas

They are both of him. The first was an A and the second was a C. Well, I believe that is all I can find to post here for the moment, as well. I hadn't intended to post much, but it looks as though I have. I'll be wandering back to my chatting thread.
