I really hope Derek doesn't kick the bucket. It's always my favourite character that dies :P (Poor poor Sirius) That mauling looked pretty darn fatal though.

This show really surprised me, I wasn't expecting to like it so much. I actually wouldn't have even known about it if it wasn't for this forum :)

Re: A new "Teen wolf" series

Same wink re Derek too. Curious how they handle werewolf damage to werewolves. Scott wasn't left with gaping chest wounds after the alpha slashed him in the bus, or when Derek did the same in the house, but those wounds weren't fatal. I still think he'll be fine, but it makes me wonder how the alpha killed the sister with 'bite marks' when the body (bits) looked relatively unscathed.

Re: A new "Teen wolf" series

Well the hunter (Kate, was it?) did admit to tearing her in half... if she was still alive after they did that, then maybe it didn't take very many bites for him to finish her off :s

Re: A new "Teen wolf" series

Kate also admitted that Lauren was dead when they did that to her, so the 'torn in half' wounds weren't what killed her. Alpha did it, and I guess we'll see on Monday how werewolves fair with lethal claw damage. (maybe bites are the only things that kill? that has some sense to it I guess)

SPOILER:
Watching episode 7 at the moment. They've certainly done the scares right in this one. big_smile Freaky shot for Jackson down the hall with the alpha standing up just in view.

HOLY CRAP. Very awesome shot of alphas face through window!!

Re: A new "Teen wolf" series

Yeah, that's nice huh? Certainly nice for a change. My one disappointment with tonight's show - they're starting to introduce the love triangle/secrets and lies! angst crap. Aside from that - brilliant big_smile Scott being forced to change and going 'darkside'? Brilliant!

Ya know, I probably wouldn't like Scott's wolfy form half as much if he didn't have glowing yellow eyes. They are so wonderfully done. Fun to see them flash red for a moment.

Freakish alpha action? BRILLIANT! Sure, he was a bit sloppy running, but worked where it counted. And that window shot.. again, awesome.

I'm still confused about what's going on with Jackson... He was affected by the alpha howl, but didn't transform (good). Wonder what's up wit dat?

Also, no-one wondered where Derek went... obviously he's not lying next to the school any more...

Aaaand, that vet is still fishy!! Think it's the chem teacher though wink

Kudos to the teen wolf crew! big_smile

yeah I too am not crazy of this love triangle that may develop. and the last minute of the show I was like "oh whatever..." but i know the romance side is bound to flare up here and there cuz it IS mtv...

but yeah scott being forced to change was excellent. only downside was this bulky jacket he's wearing, but still done well.

and i guess they're leaving derek's fate out in the open.  scott placing the blame on him was kind of dumb though. I didn't understand why that had to be scott's explanation to everyone. he could've easily played dumb instead. oh well

Re: A new "Teen wolf" series

Some screenies of the alpha to share.

I LOVED this shot of him walking by the window big_smile Sweeeeeet

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/lonemtnwolf/alphaingym.jpg
Impressed with the look, just not as impressed by the animation. His face is amazing. (heck, maybe it's a her)

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/lonemtnwolf/alphauncgi.jpg
Pretty sure that the scene where it throws Scott across the floor is an actor, not CGI. Body shape is different. Looks good, particularly the shot before this, where he's standing over the camera.

http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/lonemtnwolf/alphaontop.jpg
This was makeup too, not CGI. Good stuff. Like the fact that Scott's eyes are yellowing here too.

WolfMontana: Those are some damn good screenshots! smile

Think it's obvious that Jackson is a pawn in the alpha's game to get Scott to join its pack.(we don't know if it's a him or her yet) with him switching chemicals needed to make the molotov cocktail and getting closer to Allison.

Liking the twists in the show so far, can't wait to see what happens next.

Re: A new "Teen wolf" series

Great shots there.  I'm impressed w/the look as well.  Is there something about CGI that makes it harder to do fur?  I also think its cool that they are doing a good range of bipedal and quadruped movement.

Re: A new "Teen wolf" series

Great news: MTV has renewed Teen Wolf for a second season.

It'll be 12 episodes, same as this season, and will debut in 2012.

Re: A new "Teen wolf" series

Yeah same here - I loved that creepy moment when the alpha stood upright down the end of the hall just in view, then dropped down to all fours and slinked away. big_smile Also the long shot down the hall with Allison. Good stuff!

As for CGI and fur. I think alot of folks want to do their own 'unique' take on werewolves. I think some folks reckon that since a human is relatively hairless, why not carry that over to some degree to the werewolf side. A blend of a hairy wolf and hairless human. Personally it just ticks me off, as all I can think is the poor beastie has mange.

I haven't minded too much with this alpha though - particularly with that shot of him holding Derek up.

Anyhoo, regarding fur - in basic application (as I understand it) each strand of fur is rendered as an individual object. This consumes more system resources on render, meaning a longer rendering time, which costs more money. That might be a factor, though I also understand that there are many ways to tackle modeling/shading fur to save on rendering time.

The Twilight werewolves had very well animated fur. Crap movies... but I liked those big wolves big_smile  The Doctor Who Tooth & Claw werewolf was completely CGI, and looked very good. Van Helsing was a bit earlier, but still pulled it off.

Trying to think of my favorite CGI furred werewolf...  oooh, bipedal definitely the tooth & claw dude. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/lonemtnwolf/toothandclawwerewolf.jpg
Quadraped - the wolf from Red Riding Hood, now THAT was awesomely animated, and the fur was great. http://i62.photobucket.com/albums/h113/lonemtnwolf/redridingwerewolf.jpg

Oh, and then there's this guy big_smile  He's pretty old though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7VNzA9za5E0

Re: A new "Teen wolf" series

Nice screencaps!
I wish we saw more of the practical effects and less cgi. The model isn't bad, but the animation is very stiff and awkward-looking, especially the way the arms are spread - try crawling in that pose, it's nearly impossible to move - and it doesn't mesh well with the background plate.

Yeah, definitely room for improvement. But I really don't mind the CGI when it lets you do things with the character you wouldn't be able to do with a practical effect. Yeah, the alphas animation is AWKWARD, and I wish he'd stop acting like a chimp climbing over everything, but he's had a couple of really good moments big_smile

They actually melded him pretty well with the two 'down the hallway' scenes. He still moved funny, but looked like he belonged there. Climbing up the building in the Derek-gets-shot eppy, not so much.

Well Derek is not dead. Unless of course, he's undead I guess. The next episode description is:

"Lunatic"
Derek goes on the run from Sheriff Stilinski. Elsewhere, Scott faces his second full moon as a werewolf, with help from Stiles.
