You should realize, Brighteyes, that the Werewolves that post on here get their lycanthropy from a source other than movies and books. Historical werewolves were not the slavering, violent monsters of movies.

Actually, some historical werewolves were slavering violent psychos; But then again, they were probably just psychos that were branded that title due to the awkward justice system back then.

Re: any wolfs in cali or strange things been happening to you

Aye. And the reason I assume that is that the werewolves that went before them were not slavering, violent psychos. Such a drastic change in character indicate that the new "werewolves" were not the same beings as the earlier ones. It makes sense to  me that the first ones have first claim to the name.

If you read Carlos Ginzberg's The Night Battles, you will see how the Church convinced a whole profession that, instead of being community practitioners, they were evil, demonic sorcerers. They demonized werewolves in the same way and, the mentally deranged individuals of a later time were deluded to think that they were these demonic versions of werewolves. There's not really any mystery here. Modern humans are just following the same delusions because they're more spectacular and make better movies.

That said, the earliest documented werewolves, the Neuri, were not nice people by any means but neither were they insane and, by the Middle Ages, they had joined European society and become productive members of that society.

and how to seperate yourself from a non werewolf?  from what ive read most people here just say they have an "inner" wolf. Is that how you feel. or do you posses other characteristics? I hope im not being to personal.. Im just very curious.. and though id like to convice myself im just over imaginative i almost wish im not. If you dont want to share id understand.

Re: any wolfs in cali or strange things been happening to you

No, I have pretty good reason to believe that people like me are a physiological minority in humanity. There's plenty of controversy even within the community but I personally believe that therianthropes are Neanderthal atavisms. Why the inner animal? I don't know. I have some ideas but they're tied up with my Christian beliefs, so I don't expect they'll be held by everyone. But we have a higher incidence of shovel teeth, autism (ratio of about 1 to 10), autoimmune problems, migraines, and bilateral asymmetries than the typical human. We heal fast (that's related to the autoimmune problems) and are  extremely connected to the world around us. We tend to have shamanistic experiences as a matter of regular life experience. Short listing, but I'm writing pretty much the equivalent of a book on my website and it would take that to cover everything.

And you're not bothering me. I don't mind talking about Weres.

Well, of course, the easy answer is, "Click the "Website" link under my avatar."

Let me know what you think. And, of course, there's also an E-mail link there, too.

Re: any wolfs in cali or strange things been happening to you

If I were a scientist I would love to study the genetic differences between a "werewolf" versus the genetics of a regular human being?

I also wonder if second generations withheld their children from vaccination and other doctor appointments.

But this is my own perspective. If one was born a werewolf wouldn't that person be genetically different from regular humans and would be the subject of fascination if taken to a hospital for some treatment?

IF one was bitten by a werewolf would that person still be able to go to the hospital?

Or if the person is a second or third generation, can the gene skip and stay dormant in the body for later generations?

Re: any wolfs in cali or strange things been happening to you

They don't check genetics as a part of diagnostic work in hospitals.

I've bitten people. I left them all in a state that allowed them to get the wounds seen about. I don't think anyone has died yet.

It looks to me that there's an epigenetic factor in Werewolves. The genes that cause the predisposition are triggered by environmental factors. I suspect that the Werewolf genetics are a variant of homo neanderthalensis.
