Creatures of the Night

Dr. Gregory Reece's new nonfiction, "Creatures of the Night" will be out next month. It looks really good (of course, because I'm in it, heh). It reminds me a lot of Adam Douglas' The Beast Within, except the scope is broader and he brings out a lot  more, for instance, modern werewolves. Actually, there are two reasons I'd like this book to sell well.

1). Dr. Reece is very respectful of fringe cultures and has given the Were community a good hearing. We need the positive PR.
2). I, personally, like the man and wish him well.

Also, his books are good reads, so if you're interested in werewolves, vampires, cults, UFOs, or Elvis, give his books a look.

Re: Creatures of the Night

I have my copy (actually, I have two. I bought a Kindle file also.) Dr. Reece isn't writing about Werewolves and Vampires and ghosts and such. He's writing about why people love to be scared by them so much - why popular representations are so.........well, popular. He, rather incidentally, ends his chapters with sections about his experiences with real life instances with the "monsters". I'm happy to say that Werewolves come away looking rather good.

Re: Creatures of the Night

Hey I finally got me a copy in the mail yesterday.  I was surprised that it was a book.  I was thinking it to be like a comic book.
Very intersting stuff.  Some I knew and some I didn't know much about.

Re: Creatures of the Night

Heh. That cover gets them all the time - but that's Dr. Reece's style. He's actually pretty academic. The book's sorta split. The personal experiences part is pretty tangential to the central thesis of the book - which is why people like scary things. But then he manages to tie it together.
