"Bitten" is about a pack of werewolves living in the woods outside of Toronto, based on the first novel in the Otherworld series by Kelley Armstrong. The main character is Elena Michaels, which according to the book is the world's only female werewolf.
I read the novel almost ten years ago and it's awesome. It was also around that time that they announced plans for a movie adaptation starring Angelina Jolie. Unfortunately things were scrapped for some reason.
I'm excited for this one to come out. Hopefully they'll do justice to the book. Laura Vandervoort has been cast to play the main character of Elena.
Here's a press release:

"Bitten" premieres in autumn 2013. Can't wait!
ps. I can't help but rant at how frustrated I was that the movie plans didn't materialise. I've been waiting for this for TEN years, so they better not screw up the transformation effects, like how they did in Blood and Chocolate. Flash of light and poof you're a wolf. Fricking lame.

Aw nuts, now they've pushed it back to "early 2014"! Argh. The wait is killing me!
Shooting starts on 17 April (according to a letter I spotted somewhere), and is set to last all summer.

Some fansite. They're pretty much on the ball with what's going on with the series, so I'll be watching this space.

Yup. This is my new go-to site for "Bitten" news:
http://thebittensource.tumblr.com/
They've just revamped the website so it's much easier to read. and my my, Laura Vandervoort looks super fit as Elena!
I really really hope they don't deviate too much from the books, especially with how they portray the werewolves and their transformations. That would just be the biggest letdown ever.

There are four books (that I know of) in the Otherworld series in which Elena Michaels plays a central role: Bitten, Broken, Stolen & Frostbitten.
If they play out one book per season, that should give them enough material for four seasons. I don't want to jinx anything, but I really really hope the Bitten TV series doesn't suffer the same fate as She-Wolf of London, a little-known 1990s TV series that lasted two seasons before they pulled the plug. Such a shame, considering there are never enough female werewolves on screen.

Thanks Dig! You're always one step ahead.
As for the trailer, it has promise.
Bad news: they're using real wolves as the werewolves. But the real wolves are actually CGI wolves. Bad CGI wolves.
Good news: whereas most shows that use real wolves tend to have lousy transformations (I'm looking at you True Blood), this seems to have a genuine transformation scene--though that's CGI too.

Hmm. (going by the trailer) The story sounds interesting and the music was epic but. The wolves look like Twilight wolves. No. No nope nope no. I'll read the books instead.

There's no such thing as a "good CGI wolf" (or any animal for that matter *thinking of Wolfman 2010 the bear and deer were obviously fake*). If I look at it and can tell after a slit second it's fake, it's bad. And these wolves look worse than 'bad'.
I'm still a stickler for using real wolves for werewolves, but television budget is ridiculous these days it would seem. I don't know how they could afford the werewolves and transformations I'd like (Rick Baker style for example), so I'll let it pass. But CGI is unforgivable.

First up: I LOVE YOU DIG. I REALLY DO.
Well judging by the trailer it seems like they mostly kept true to the books. The novel depicts the werewolves as full-fledged wolves with human mass, and the transformations as long-drawn and painful. I was half-expecting "poof" TFs or lousy morphs a la True Blood (I'm with you on this one Blackjack).
Again Dig, you are the god of my universe. Thanks!

eOne newsletter. The CGI animators talk at length about their work. There are also two featured interviews with Laura Vandervoort and series creator Daegan Fryklind - who I just realised is a lady.

Space's blog says this has a few more peeks at Elena's first TF.
Unfortunately where I am in the world, I am unable to access the vid. Tried using several proxy servers but didn't work either.
Oh well. Have fun with this. Just a couple more weeks to the real stuff.

I've tried some, but the only thing that worked for me is the fantastic plug-in for firefox called "hola unblocker". Yes, it works .

Fantastic! I was about to post the sneak peek here, but you beat me to it The interview is new to me though, so thanks!
(Chronologically speaking, this is not Elena's first Change. The scene we see here was taken from the prologue in the book, when she had already left the Pack after being bitten and Changing several times. Here she is trying to strike a balance between city life in Toronto and being a werewolf.)
Hmm. upandcomers.net isn't very flattering of the show though. Oh well. let's see for ourselves tonight.

So...what do you guys think? There's been some issues taken with the producers' decision to go full CGI, but I don't really mind as long as the effects pass a believable benchmark (which in this case I think is satisfactory). After all, these are werewolves - creatures of legend. If they had used actual wolves - well...they'd just have been wolves minus the "were"
The TF effects are quite good considering this is a Space production. I was only disappointed they didn't show Elena's muzzle shift in more detail. Also, Logan seems to portray the agony of Change better than Elena does.
