Hey, don't beat yourself up, Wolf Montana, I like Superman too and yeah, I like the new guy but could they find someone closer to the look of Alex Ross's Superman?
I also wished that they didn't removed the yellow S shied from his cape and put it on his belt.

Hey dude. I'm down in Australia at the moment, so a bit sporadic on the board.
Hope everyone's doing great! It's great to be back with my family for Christmas

Awsome! It's summer there, isn't it?

Wow. That's insane. I know they're really bad in Victoria and Tasmania (!! Tasmania!!) but we're okay here in Sydney. And it's strange I flew in and it was cool, the next morning was hot and now it's actually quite cold and drizzling a little. Thank god for a bit of rain, it's so dry here.
Are you a volunteer firefighter?

Yeah, but today's been nice and cool, with rain!

Cool dude. Do you think you'll be called to help out?

No, we're the local district... that sort of equates to a "shire" in Australia. We're basically support and leadership for a lot of local and volunteer organisations (community boards etc) and the usual roading and infrastructure services. We're also support/leadership for the local rural fire authority and it's in that capacity we're helping out. Six months ago one of our guys was over in the United States leading firefighting crews; now we've got another guy over working with the Aussies. I'm in the GIS (i.e. computer mapping) side of things) and it's in that capacity that the bloke next to me has been shoulder-tapped - there's apparently not enough mapping sort of people around in Aussie to handle the workload and he's had a fairly broad experience of surveying, mapping and engineering sort of work.
We're also the people who'd be running any civil defence emergency until such time as the professionals get involved... we've done lots of training on various scenarios over the last few years. This part of the country floods regularly so it's a question of when, not if. The training is basically how to keep things running and collate the best and most accurate picture of what's going on... this area is so spread out and thinly populated and the road links are a bit rough so that most small communities need to be able to "go it alone" for the first few hours of an emergency.
Very interesting, Midnight Grey!

Oh.....
Maybe you can make me a map that will take me to Santa's workshop at the North Pole, Midnight Grey.

no... I don't have the engineering background that my co-worker has... I'm more from the mapping and record-keeping side of things. Also there's only three of us running the entire GIS, we're spread so thinly that the manager might end up vetoing it.
*nod* Well, I'm glad you get to stay where you are, though I hope there's no veto! (unless that gets you an unexpected paid holiday

You know you're in trouble with your parents DSL internet connection when the smileys in your thread take a second to pop up after your thread's been posted.
This is disturbing me. Someone throw me a cable line QUICK!!!

Hey Grey - I'm in New South Wales, just outside of Sydney NSW is above Victoria. We have had some bad bush fires close enough to where we could drive to see them, but that was a while ago. And it's very cool here at the moment. (lovin' it!) Here's hoping for some rain or something to give the guys a break in Vic and Tas.

Probably not, unless the north pole has shifted to somewhere in the southern half of the South Island while I wasn't looking...
I think Santa has some people outsourced to the South Pole, Midnight Grey
