Therian Tendencies?

Is it just me, or are there... things, that your Therian nature seems to intrude on in particular? For example, playing energetic exercises or things that require your blood pumping or adrenaline going.

Personally, when doing the mundane, I find I feel my most out of touch. When doing something more carnal: working, fighting, anything harsh... I become much more stubborn and angry, sometimes violently so, and it feels as though I'm much more connected to my inner canine...

Re: Therian Tendencies?

That's personality. There's a lot of variation among Werewolves and some of them are the complete opposite of what you describe. In fact, there's even a lot of personality variation among wolves.

Re: Therian Tendencies?

Really?

The reason I was wondering, was because that was when I felt closest to my Therian self, and maybe someone had advice on finding exactly what my Theriotype was... I posted a bit on werelist, and haven't figured it all out just yet, so I'm still excited to!

Re: Therian Tendencies?

So by theriotype, do you mean, you wonder which animal?

Re: Therian Tendencies?

Exactly... I know, I feel, I'm some form of canine... I just don't know what. Sometimes I'm convinced it's wolf, other times I'm convinced I'm an ordinary dog. And still others, I feel something in between... perhaps a coyote?

Re: Therian Tendencies?

Ah, I see exactly what you mean. Do you have any particular reasons to suspect one over the other?

Re: Therian Tendencies?

Well... Let's see here...

Wolf:
Bouts of rage over my 'pack' (group of friends/mate)
Absolute love of outdoors
Severe independence (as an alpha)
Overly prideful/Confident
Confrontational (at least as far as my pack goes)

Dog:
Overtly loyal to one person at a time.
Can just as easily stay inside

The rest of the reasoning can really apply to both.

Re: Therian Tendencies?

That's really interesting, and something I obviously cannot answer. What does your gut tell you?

Re: Therian Tendencies?

hmm I don't know. Some days I'm pulled towards one more than the other, sometimes vice versa. My mate says she doesn't see the dog in me at all, but my doubts keep pulling me back to it.

I think I need to have one of those 'awakenings' or a provocative shift to figure this out...

Re: Therian Tendencies?

Meditating might help, although, to be effective like Vin it apparently takes years of practice (I tried it once, and it helped with relaxing but I really didn't discover much). Dreams can be key, have you ever had them as one or the other? (BTW congrats on your 100th post big_smile )

Re: Therian Tendencies?

Not really. My sleep schedule changes quite rapidly, and I generally don't have dreams unless something traumatic happens during the day. I've sort of tried meditation, and I had a very vague dreamlike deal, but that was it.

(YAY! Thanks! big_smile)

Re: Therian Tendencies?

Ahh to be a new member again.

You're very right about true meditation taking years to master. But after it is mastered or even simply experienced it can be quite helpful.

I've heard of figuring out what your theriotype is in a sudden burst. Sorta like an epiphany. But I don't think those realizations can be trusted personally.

Re: Therian Tendencies?

Meditation doesn't feel right. I've sat and tried it, but clearing my mind and calming myself doesn't work. It doesn't feel... natural. I want to do something, be active, and ironically enough, I'm not some kind of work freak or excitable person.

I think I'm either not doing it correctly, or maybe it's just not right for me.

Re: Therian Tendencies?

When I first started meditating it did not feel right.

You have to find your own niche.

Re: Therian Tendencies?

I'll probably keep trying it for fun and practice and all, but I've got an idea to force myself to find out what it is. I'll find out soon enough!

Don't push yourself. Fair warning since I did at one point.

Re: Therian Tendencies?

Sometimes you don't come up with the right answer and that can rip you to shreds later in life. Better to wait and take it slowly.

Re: Therian Tendencies?

I have the same issue with meditation, my mind is always running a million miles a minute and I usually drive towards physical activity. Something that helped was to dance around for an hour or so before I meditate. Start out just being crazy and then do something like a repetitive dance, such as an Irish Riverdance and such, eventually zoning out occurs and your mind stops thinking and just acts, then is a good time to meditate, your body will have burnt energy and your mind will be clearer and able to calm down enough to meditate. I hope that made a little bit of sense, but now looking back I'm not so sure.........

Re: Therian Tendencies?

Somewhat. I know a dance very similar called the Sweets of May. It uses a lot of the same steps but is a group partner dance, instead of the straight line dance.

Re: Therian Tendencies?

I'll give anything a shot now. I just feel so awkward not knowing what to call myself. I know a general term, but that's like saying, 'I know I'm a primate,' you know?

Re: Therian Tendencies?

I never did like labels too much. Look for them is always so difficult because do we ever really fit into the box perfectly.
