I use to have major problems with hallucinations when I was little and seeing things and stuff like that. And having bad dreams and feeling things that were not there. It was all really scary too. I had to have some psychological evaluation when I was in school because of this.
Up to when I was about 18 years old I always sleeped under the covers over my head because I was afraid that something was gonna touch me. I had feelings of things touching me sometimes. But now I don't have that problem any more cause I guess I'm not afraid of that no more. I don't have illusions any more either at least if I do I simply ignore them or attempt to approach the illusion and then it usually goes away.
But this stuff doesn't have any effect on me living a normal life. I'm glad cause I have to pay bills and maintain my home and family.

Perhaps we should make a tread about apparitions. "Hallucinations or not, what is your opinion?".
But like you, these weird "events" don't have much impact on my life, it just creates interesting conversations. But sadly, some people get very spooked and/or obsessed that they neglect their responsabilities...I'm sure you've heard about a normal, sweet and caring guy that moves in a so called haunted house with his family. Then suddenly he becomes abusive, does not show up at work, stays up all night...

I don't see any real reason to be afraid of any apparitions, at least I've never been harmed by any. I don't know of anyone else being harmed either. Don't guess that I would have any care if I lived in an haunted house or not. Makes no differents to me. Why are most people afraid of things like that anyhow?
But really, you know, maybe it's because a person dosen't have any guilt on your mind or life and you have no approprite fear of apparitions anyways.
I don't have any nessasary fear of werewolves either when I come to the realization of how I am lycanthropically inclined myself in many ways. But of corse, it's only natural to be causios of other canines and people you don't know, very well. I'd tread lightly!

Little black wisps? I'm always amazed when people notice them and don't realize what they are but I've had so much trouble with my eyes, perhaps I have had more problems with them earlier and sorta found out about them naturally.
I can't think of what you call them but, if it's what I think you're talking about, I can tell you what they are.
As you get older, debris builds up in the jelly that fills the inner chamber of the eyeball. They're paricles that have been sloughed off the inner wall of the eye, dead blood cells, etc. When light passes by them, they're so close to the retina that their image is blurred, so they look like wisps. Everybody has them - some folks more than others - but they're not very obvious except in certain lighting conditions. Even then, you might not attend to them. Once you see them, they're always there.
Since they're in the eyeball itself, if you move the eye to look in another direction, they'll seem to dart away, making it look as though they're trying to evade your sight.

My theory about why Therians are weird magnets. I believe that what makes a Therians a Therians is that their "word processor" - the temporal lobe of the brain - works somewhat independently from the rest of ther brain - more as a coprocessor than as an integral part of the brain. You se the same situation in genders. Regardless of what a lot of politically correct people want to believe (and are pretty darn committed to shoving down everybody else's throats), males and females do function differently. One of the main differences is that the left (rational) and right (emotional) lobes of their brains are more integrated in females - it's a physiological difference. The crossover netwotks are physically thicker with more neurons in woman as compared to men. And it does affect behavior and the way men and women process information.
Well, the upshot would be that, unlike in normal humans, in Therians, words would not be as much of a control function. In normal humans, peoples' brains tend to filter out information that they consider unimportant and much of the subtle information in their surroundings is considered unimportant. The filtering is linguistic. People start very early telling themselves, "That isn't real." By the time they reach maturity, they've set programmed their brains to accept that certain things are or are not real. Ghosts aren't real, Werewolves aren't real.
Well, if your word processor doesn't control your brain, it can't filter your information, therefore, you don't get to pick and choose what you're going to receive (not that way, anyway). So we're left wide open to all the subtle information in our surroundings. Most "paranormal" information is subtle. Empathic information is also very subtle.
Therefore, it's not that we particularly attract weirdness - we just attend to it more than mainstreamers. We can't ignore it as conveniently as they can.
And, BTW, that's what the black wisps are called, "streamers".

You know what?
That's funny....
I have the paranormal explanation and I have the scientific explanation.
The thing about the paranormal explanation that makes it funny is, my friend was really into it. Like I mean her explanation was serious just like this one.
Offline
Really? What was her idea?
Offline
Hereidea was that everyone has a second sight. The wisps that we see are acually spirits on their own plain. This brings in the idea that there are multiple "dimensions" so to speak, and that the two are mixing in certain points. The way she explained it made a lot of sense. BTW she's Pagan and very knowledgeable on the subject.

Not discarding other theories but I tend to lean towards BW's friend's theory. (Maybe because I'm a pagan too?). But WVZ's theory is interesting too tho...
Oh and yeah, males and females do function differently, I agree 100%. It's just that some say that males or more intelligent, others say it's the females. But it's not a question of intelligence. Some parts of our brain are more active depending if we are male or female.
Your theory brings me back to animals I mean, when a ghost or call it what you will manifests itself, your pet sees it or feels it.
Offline
The problem with her theory is that you can use a slit light and see the debris in the eye ball and you can track the motion of the floaters (not "streamers", sorry) by the relative motion of the debris in the eyeball. In other words, there's no mystery. It's a verifiable fact.
Check out the Wikipedia article on "Floaters".

Remember, you can prove something to someone and they will not believe you. You can show them undeniable proof, and they still won't considerate it. This is why I'm agnostic...

True BW...but I mean, everybody has different beliefs. There are many things that I've witnessed, I was given a scientific and logical explanation for most of them but I still believe that some of these cannot be explained by science or logic. Tho we have to respect others beliefs and keep an open mind. Whatever if you are a non believer or a believer.

Can I pipe in? I know what Wolf's talking about - I have one that developed at the same time my mum was going through hell in the hospital. However it's pretty much a dot, and I know what it's doing. There are actual recorded instances of black 'shapes' that flit around (there was a particularly freaky one in a Ghost Hunter episode) that aren't related to debris in the eye.
From my personal experience and from all of the accounts I've read, I know there is such a thing as ghosts, and I know there's life after our physical death. I've no firm clue of the how or why, though there are many theories, but I don't need convincing to believe and noone will ever be able to convince me otherwise.
I'm not saying that this is related to the black wispy thing, you guys were just talking about belief above as well.
Sorry for off topic!
Uh... I have a bit of wolf in me cause um... I like cheese!

Wolves don't like cheese. Steak is better than cheese.

Yeah we are kind of drifting off topic But one last thing, what I meant to say is that many events have different explanations, like for WVZ it was his eyes, BW maybe really saw something unexplainable, so did you and I. It's just that we have to consider all possibilities what ever our beliefs.
But to get back on topic, it's my dream shifts and many other things that indicates that I have wolf in me. Since childhood I had this deep attachement to wolves. And when I would see wolves on t.v. or in books, I had the impression of looking at relatives. It's hard to describe the feeling. When we would go out camping, I would venture in the woods alone without getting lost, fearless, would howl at night. I was about 4 or 5. What I'm saying it's a combination of many things.

I know the feeling. I feel like I'm looking in a mirror.

I have never had that feeling before. However, I did and do still think that all humans look a like....if you know what I mean.
Offline
No...I don't know what you mean. Most humans disgust me.

BlackWolfDS, there's a thing called facial agnosia where you can't attend to faces. Many Therians have it. It's rough being in a public service job and can't remember faces. I also have a hard time recognizing people's cars.
Offline
I'm just saying in general. If I met someone, I associate their face with their actions/small details and that's how I recognize them. It's strange and I think what I'm trying to explain is a contradiction...
Offline
Me it's the opposite...I cannot remember names but I'm good with faces. I recognize people by their faces and "vibes". But names...takes me some time to remember names. I do not know if it's related to my therian side tho...I don't so but...
BTW, is a question that I've been asking myself for ages...and I would like to read your opinions. I was wondering if therianthropy is somehow the result of being an animal in your previous life...like for example, a werewolf was a wolf in a previous life and he or she is remembering the "wolf" days in dream shifts...I mean, it could explain that special understanding of wolves, that "attachement".
