Me it's the opposite...I cannot remember names but I'm good with faces. I recognize people by their faces and "vibes". But names...takes me some time to remember names. I do not know if it's related to my therian side tho...I don't so but...
BTW, is a question that I've been asking myself for ages...and I would like to read your opinions. I was wondering if therianthropy is somehow the result of being an animal in your previous life...like for example, a werewolf was a wolf in a previous life and he or she is remembering the "wolf" days in dream shifts...I mean, it could explain that special understanding of wolves, that "attachement".
Yeah! That's exactly what I mean Black Fur. That's how I know people. And the way you remember people could be related, I personally haven't thought about it.
You mean reincarnation? Hmmm, that acually...makes a lot of sense....it's like deja vu. *nods* I agree with it.

never really thought about it, but that's true for me as well. I'm terrible with names... but good with faces. It's weird since I'm usually great at memorizing stuff like historical names, phone numbers, vocab words....but as soon as you add a real person to the equation, it just doesn't stick. I'll ALWAYS manage to mix up the names of people who look similar, hang out together, or just remind me of each other...
And I think I'm with you on the whole "vibes" thing...I dunno, I'm a little oversensitive to that stuff, I'm good at figuring people out.

Yeah, I have the name thing, too.
There are quie a few theories of therianthropy. Reincarnation is one of them - there are quite a few problems with that. though. People's theriotype aren't particularly stable. Most Therians have multiple theriotypes and they change and many go away.
In my own case, I began with a Horse theriotype whch soon changed to a Wolf. Before 1978, I developed two bovine and one feline theriotype along with the Horse and Wolf; then they all integrated and now I nly have one side - Wolf. So what happned?
Was I in error about some of the Theriotypes? Or was I responding to several past lives? If the Indian system of reincarnation is correct, everybody has been an animal in a past life. Why isn't everyone a Therian? Are they just not sensitive? Why would memories of past lives come and go like that? Do I just forget?
You see, what's happening here is that I'm fitting my explanations to the theory, not to the observations. You can explain anything by any theory but you have to either ignore reality or you have to force reality to fit your theories.....unless, the theory is correct. Ideally, you fit your theories to reality and not vice versa.

I could believe that I was a wolf in a previous life. I seem to have some extremely strong, very visceral memories of hunting. I have a great imagination, but I know I'm not making them up. They come to me in a rush, and are too 'up close and personal' to be just figments. I dunno.

And you might be right but spontaneous thoughts are a hallmark of the subconscious - they're not necessarily supernatural.
I have what could be called ancestoral memory but my preferred explanation is that I'm empathically linking with people in my particular historical chain of events. Neither reincarnation or postcognition is required to explain that.
But, then I could be wrong, so I won't promote that as a solid fact. On the other hand, I'd be happy to discuss the pros and cons.

Same here Howlitzer, I mean I remember historical names and series of numbers...
WVZ, I'm one of those whom the theriotype has never changed but then again, I've been "conscient" of my therian side for less then a year so...maybe it will change. But like I said in a previous posts, all "feelings" and "events" were evolving around wolves. But I believe you because one of my therian friends believed himself to be a dragon, then he was a kitsune. Now he believes that he is both. I've noticed that many therians have different theriotypes. But could it be because they believe that all theriotypes act so differently from one and other? I mean do they tell themselves :"Well I cannot be just a wolf because I tend to...like a cat...". I mean like humans, animals have different personalities...but you know, that's just my opinion.
As for what I mentioned about reincarnation, that makes sense to me but I'm not sure about it. It explains many things but leaves others with a big fat question mark...
Wolf, I too experience the same, I mean hunting memmories. And it's like my senses remember things...hard to explain...but then, perhaps those result of my aboriginal blood...

I think you're probably right about how Therians deduce their theriotypes sometimes - but if you take it to the logical end, all theriotypes are imaginary. I think you hinted the correct cause - theriotypes are related to personalities.

Hm... yeah me too Black_Fur, my theriotype has never changed either.

I used to have a little bit of a lion side, but the wolf always dominated. When I was under five though the lion side was stronger,I remember being little and playing either wolf, lion or horse. When I was about 9 the wolf side totally dominated and it got stronger with age and when I was in 8th grade I realized I was a therian and that others like myself were out on in the world, but mainly on the internet. That be my story.

Does kicking someone's ass if they threaten you or a family member count?

A lion? Cool. I'm curious, what indicated that you had a lion or horse side?
I too am very protective of my relatives. When I was little, this psycho woman threaten my mother to kill her (just because her son and I fought, we were only 6!). She was in her face screaming: "I'll kill you! I'll kill you! I'll cut your throat!". I was crying and screaming at that wh*** to stop and I wanted to bite her, hit her but someone was holding me back. I don't remember who...I think it was a teacher. Even today I'm very protective of my family. Perhaps it is due to our therian side but maybe not. I mean, most people are protective of their families right? I think it is of human nature.

The lion side was very independent and always very curious, but also I liked to stay very close to my parents like any wolf pup or lion cub.The horse side I think just came in a bit because I have had them my whole life and they almost "rubbed" off on me,still do today. The wolf side on the other had was always in me,I can remember always just having this instinct and subconcious side just with me to help and such.

No, Something, anyone with any concern for others will want to protect their family and friends. That's not a distinctive of Therians.

uhm, I guess I do because I was bitten by a wolf once XD
probably a chip of a tooth... yes I know that the same type of "bit" you were looking for, but meh

Yes but what I mean is how did you come to "feel" that you had a lion and a horse side? A deep feeling of some sort? Searif...

I was bitten on the arm by a really big dog..
Offline
Yeah, the feeling of an animal has always been in me and I have had a deep "feeling" of it I guess.Kinda hard to explain...

You know, I don't think I knew a kid while I was growing up, that didn't get bit by a dog. Most of them deserved it well. I was bitten in the throat by a dog that had been hit by a car and I was carryng him out of the highway.

I've gotten bit on my hand, arm and back of my leg but it was because I got in the middle of a dog fight.

Got bitten too, on the nose and I was bleeding...it was my fault tho...
But back to topic having wolf in us, does some of you sometimes have this urge to leave everything behind and go live in the woods? You know get rid of everything and only using your senses to survive?

I do get urges to go and live somewhere peaceful (not neccessarily the woods), but I would like to bring my family along.

Oh yeah. In fact, that's a constant for me. I pretty committed to Selma (which, thankfully, is a fairly natural environent) because I have so many good contacts here. I would hate to give those up.
But I'm one of those Therians with autoimmune problems. I keep about three random inflammations going at any time. The only times I've noticed that they go away are during long campouts. The SEHowl is only a little over a week away and I so look forward to it!
