I was just given one of the coolest gifts ever. I don't actually drink that much, but this totally blew me away, and the timing was incredible, what with the full moon.
Apparently there's a winery in Romania by the name of Werewolf! I was given a bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, and the design is just fantastic!! No idea how they taste, I think we're going to break into one tomorrow night.
Here's a pic of the bottle, and the awesome wrapper at the top:
How freakin' cool is THAT!?!?! I love the red claw design and the moon is just beautiful on the bottle.
Here's the description from the back:
'Stories of werewolves can be found as far back as history has been written. With some of the earliest accounts of werewolves coming from Romanian and Greek sources. Ovid, in the Metamophoses, told [of] King Lycaeon. Who was visited by passing gods. The king decided to test them, to see if they were real gods, and served human flesh in one of the many dishes served at a banquet in their honor. Upon discovering the tainted dish, the gods were furious (cannibalism was frowned upon in that part of the world). They changed King Lycaeon into a werewolf - since he obviously liked human flesh, the wolf form would be a more acceptable form to take part in such vile activity.
Werewolves are easy to spot as they have several common characteristics: red hair, eyebrows that join in the middle, index and middle fingers that are the same length, love of rare or raw meat, hairs on the palms of the hands and hair on the inside of the skin (a tough one to check!).
For a howling good time, even without a full moon, this wine will put hair on your palms!'
Both wines are 2003. Imported by Tri-Vin Imports, Inc Mr. Vernon, NY
'Quality red wine from the VS Viile Banatului Region, Romania'

Just had some of this tonight. Not a bad little Pinot Noir. I am looking for their website, but a different werewolf chatboard comes up instead.

I'm gonna have to find a bottle next time my parents go to town. I have a collection of bottles and stuff, including "Dead Guy Ale", lol

If anyone does find their contact info please let me know. I have a shoot in Sept where the characters drink a lot of red wine. I would like to get permission from an actual winery to use their wine and this seems ideal. It would be as cool as getting Voodoo Rum to be the official rum of HOODOO FOR VOODOO.

Makes me want a glass of wine right now!
But wait-I looked it up & it's only $10
How does it TASTE??
Could a $10 Romanian wine be good?
!!!

I'm no wine critic, and tend to dislike them more than like them, but I thought it was pretty good. The red we tried anyhoo. My boyfriend (more of a wine conisomethingrather, liked it too

I've had wine from $5 a bottle to $200 + a bottle and learned that anything over about $40 is wasted on me. After that I can't taste the difference. That being said, I liked it well enough. It was oustanding, but I'd certainly drink it again with a good meal.
(And no, I never paid $200 for a bottle of wine. We had tastings where I worked so we could better serve people with expensive taste.)

I`m a wine seller and can say that you can get a reasonable wine for 7 $/ 0,75 liter.
But there is still a chance that you don`t like the wine. You just have to find out and trust in your own opinion. I don`t have any experience with wines from romania and i know that they are not really famous, but I don´t want to spread prejudice.

Ahem... ah... to answer Rowan's question - it's weird, but I tried finding them, and the only contact info they give is the web address on the cork - which incidentally goes to the werewolf.com forum.
Did you know they also have Vampire wine - I believe it's made by the same folks Whoever they are!
