Don't get me started on that pug-faced thing! It's literally the only thing stopping The Howling from being my favourite werewolf movie. Sure, it seems like a small thing, but it's supposed to be a climatic moment, and it's just so daft...

Re: Best/worst Werewolf moviesyouve seen

The best I've seen:
Wolf
An American Werewolf in London
The Howling
The Wolf Man (original)
Haven't seen The Company of Wolves yet, but I'm sure it will be pretty good.

Worst:
Cursed (could have been SO MUCH BETTER)
All Howling sequels
An American Werewolf in Paris
Van Helsing (entertaining, to be sure, but not very good)

So-So:
Bad Moon

"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist"-
Kevin Spacey as "Verbal Kint" in The Usual Suspects. Awesome Movie! big_smile

Best:
American werewolf in paris
Blood and chocolate
Van helsing (The CGI was awsome, that's why I liked it)

Worst:
Howling sequels
Wolf
American werewolf in london
cursed
dog soldiers (exagerated the blood way too much, and it was plain old long and boring!!!)

Is bad moon a good movie, and which other werewolf movies are good, besides the ones listed.

Re: Best/worst Werewolf moviesyouve seen

another great movie its wolf-girl, its an indie movie about a girl that belongs to a circus because she is covered by hair, she wasn't a werewolf, but the town's folks were so mean to her, that she ends up becoming a killer cannibal, thus, finally becomes a real werewolf.....great movie

Bad Moon was pretty good.  It wasn't great, but it was fun.  Had a couple of nice death scenes.  The werewolf transformation scene was a bit heesy, though!

Yeah, that whole - left side, right side, aw crap, now I look like a bat thing was a bit weird.

But I thought the werewolf looked pretty cool, considering. And it had some good tension. And an annoying salesman was killed, so, y'know - BONUS.

Re: Best/worst Werewolf moviesyouve seen

I think people didn't like bad Moon because they didn't understand it. It was a Disney formula dog movie that just happened to have a Werewolf in it. In fact, the book was named "Thor" because it was, primarily, about the dog.

Hmm...well, favorite is obviously "The Howling." Also put "Ginger Snaps," "Silver Bullet," "Dog Soldiers," "Bad Moon," and I guess even "American Werewolf In London" up there.

Least faves....that goes to stuff like "Wolves of Wall Street" and "Mad at the Moon."

Re: Best/worst Werewolf moviesyouve seen

I happen to like Bad Moon. It had a good story and the climatic fight scene at the end between the werewolf and the family dog was very well done. The one thing I didn't like about it was the CGI morph style that they did with the transformation. I thought it was weak. But other than that, I liked it.

Yeah, the werewolf did look cool, but the transformation scene could have been soooo much better.
I still liked it, though.
I can't find it on DVD anywhere.  BAH!  Is it out of print or something?

Rage of the Werewolf (Kevin J. Lindemuth) is beyond any doubt the worst I've ever tried to watch.
Which is actually a darn shame because the script for the movie really has some charm.

Re: Best/worst Werewolf moviesyouve seen

K, i just went through the list of almost all the Werewolf movies everyone just mentioned...and yet I can hardly retain the names suddenly XD.  So, until I relook everything over again, I just mention the ones I can remember off the top of my head:

Best:
- Howling 1 (Nicely acted tense movie.  Awesome special effects.  Between Howling and AWIL, I miss those days when the TF was doing like THAT and not by CG.  It's like nobody in this movie industry world can either match or top that.  They like their little CG effects.  Are they or the actors/actress afraid to get a little hairy?)

- American Werewolf in London (Again, great effects.  I remember this one well because back before I liked the idea of becoming a wolf...I was SCARED shinzless from the tf scene...which is normally the intention of the filmmakers job.  So it worked perfectly.  Plus the lite and dark humor bits were entertaining..."That naked man stole my balloon." lol )

- Werewolf Hunter (Just recently saw this On Demand...and I was surprised.  This was actually a well played movie.  Sure there may have be a few cheesy bits and some of the things in the film were kinda "whoa, um...ok?" or "Holy Cow NO!", but I liked the fact that this played out like a psychological mystery than a full-on fantasy horror.  I guess I'm just a sucker for those kind of things.  As for the actual part involving whether the werewolf was real...the transformation...well, i guess it was more of a revert.  But, it was an interesting idea that it was more like a cocoon revertion...but in the end not my favorite idea.  Still, that didn't take away from the great drama in the film.  Maybe movies set in Victoria or late 1800's...based in a non-fictional world...have better acting *shrugging* )

- Dog Soldiers (Ok, probably should be in my so and so, but I liked this for the action.  The acting was decent enough to care/loathe for each particular character, and some things were surprising when it probably was dead right obvious.  The transformation and parts of the werewolf could've been pulled off better, but things were kinda already fast that not too much detail was needed.  Either way, I liked this movie enough that I'm eagerly awaiting the sequel hopefully coming soon...though I probably shouldn't hope too much, most sequels never pan out well.)

Ok, time for the BAD:

- Howling 2 and 6 (Ok, I can't give off any beef about the others cause I haven't seen them COMPLETELY, but to be honest I've seen clips so they would most likely go under the "will never watch" pile.  3 looks way too goofy and what is up with the melty and oddities in 4!  5 is going under so-so cause I remember liking the mystery aspect.  Anyways, back on subject, bad - movies!  Acting and plot ridiculous for 2 and something was just wrong with 6.  Unless you happen to like the orgy parts of the 2, meh.  The werewolf in 6 was a different type of ugly.  I did like the fact he was kind enough NOT to eat the cat though >^.^< )

**update**

- Darkwolf (I just remembered this...and I now wish I hadn't.  Worst piece of junk ever.  The CG effects were awful, not just for the werewolves but for anything else!  And the acting was horrible.  Worst...werewolf...movie...EVER!)

OK, i'm having brain farts now.  I'm sure there are more hates but I can't think of them right now, and since I got to take care of a few things, I leave this post with quick So-So's:

Ginger Snaps and Ginger Snaps Back (Didn't see all of 1 but it looked interest, though very bleak in the end.  3 was actually pretty ok.  Problem is, The werewolf's full tfed were a bit ugly.  Yes, I'm a fan of full furred wolves :p )

Underworld 1 and 2 (This is actually in my Liked movies, but because this both a Vampire and Werewolf themed movies...and since I think the werewolves though neat looking could've been done better, this is stuck in my So-So pile.  I liked the action and plot though, I liked Selena and some of the other characters.  The idea was also intruging at the time, a Vamp vs Wolf War in modern gothic days and the strange twist on the theme of "Star-crossed lovers"...though the transsion on that could've been smoother)

Van Helsing (Agreed that the Werewolves were cool looking even for CG, and the shedding theory is tolerable than the "melty" theory.  But the movie was more of a "I'll watch if I'm really bored" fun romp than a terrific move.  I still like Hugh Jackman's acting though, he's actually been good in most things...and also Kate Beckinsale big_smile )

- Bad Moon (Mildly entertaining and neat looking wolfy, but tf was indeed awkward.  The plot was kinda hard to follow with the cursed guys reasoning or history...I kinda slept through parts of it I think cuase its almost a haze.)

- Blood and Chocolate (Not bad...but not the best either.  I read the original book and like concept of werewolves better in it, though the ending was a bit confusing or anti-climatic.  The movie though was trying to go on a more actiony direction and more adult plot since the book was more towards a young adult feel.  The acting wasn't that bad and I still found most of the plot do-able, mostly because I liked the fact Adien's role redeemed itself by trying as best as possible to understand the situation instead of just trying to kill Vivian and runaway like a little scaredy girl lol as for transformation; I understand the poetic motive for it...but it kinda went from WAY TOO Spiritual or phenomenon or something than just physcial process.)

- American Werewolf in Paris (It was funny mostly, but it was also kinda drawn out.  Plus...the design for the werewolves were meak...they were hairy, buff, dog like monkey's really).

More for later I believe.

Re: Best/worst Werewolf moviesyouve seen

watched part of "the beast must die" last night.

70's movie pacing is so slow compared to now, it was hard to watch and i fell asleep, but i thought it was interesting that they were building up to a break in the movie where you had to solve who  the werewolf was.

Re: Best/worst Werewolf moviesyouve seen

The Best...

1. Ginger Snaps - it borrowed just a bit from Joss Whedon's Buffy.  It managed to apply teen girls with teen emotions while applying a strong supernatural overtone.  The script was solid and the two girls had chemistry, and it had a decent amount of witty sarcasm.

2. Ginger Snaps 2 - not as good as the first but it had a little bit of a Poppy Z. Brite spin which gave it lovely modern injection, same can be said for the first.

3. American Werewolf in London - creepy for the back in the day and the werewolf was cool.

4. Howling 2 - totally awful movie but so awful it amused the hell out of me.  The acting was beyond campy and the werewolves mating reminded me of what soft core porn would have been like before the razor was invented.

5. The Wolfen - not a traditional werewolf flick but it dealt with one of the myths behind the werewolves in regards to the whole native american connection.  Whatever happened to the guy who played Dewey?

6. Teen Wolf - it was cheesy fun but it was the 80's and almost everything was about perkyness and bad fashion., probably because everyone was on coke.

7. Werewolf? - I always forget the name of the show but it was on Fox when Fox first brought out Married with Children.  The show stole a lot from the old Incredible Hulk series but it was a pretty solid show.

8. Howling 1 - good gorey fun...

9. Big Bad Wolf - pretty bad flick with the exception of the werewolf..

The Crappy

1. Ginger Snaps 3 - it felt forced and it made me wonder if they regretted killing Ginger off in the first one and had to think of some way to make her the vital character again.  I'm not a big fan of movies that take place before cars, I kind of prefer my horror to have modern themes, so that hurt the flick in my book as well.

2. Dark Wolf - I own it sadly, it's really bad but not bad enough to be fun to watch.

3. Cursed - the yanks attempt at trying to do their own Ginger Snaps.. and another one of my gems.. I knew it was bad before I bought it though.. I just put it on once in awhile to watch Christina Ricci cuz she's a doll.

4. Howling 3-infinity - the first one is a classic, the second is amusing.. the rest are just crap

5. Van Helsing - it had such promise.. Kate Beckinsale looked tasty (prefer her with the long hair over that pseudo goth look she had in underworld), the werewolves looked awesome.. but no chemistry between the actors.. gawd awful script.. and far to much cheese.

6. Company of Wolves - Danielle Dax is in it (killer gothic rock chick from the 80's) but the flick was just too innocent for me.  Not as innocent as Teen Wolf but bleh..

I need to see Blood and Chocolate, the soundtrack impressed me.  It's one of the first times a somewhat mainstream movie has used underground goth/ebm acts.  However, I heard the movie itself kind of bombs?

Re: Best/worst Werewolf moviesyouve seen

Heh, Werewolf of Fever Swamp is at least something to add to the repertoire - it's a kids flick, and the werewolf isn't that creepy, but it's fun.
Werewolf of Washington was fun for me, mainly cause I like Dean Cain. big_smile The transformations are ala the original Wolfman (slow fades), but he sure looks cute as a little grey poofy headed werewolf big_smile lol He plays it well though.
Darkwolf - only watch if you want to see a naked yet fur plastered lass howl on a window ledge. This movie sucks major rat butt.
Werewolves on Wheels - like alot of B-grade 70's flicks, the pacing is as slow as crap, the werewolves look like low rent wolfmen.
I was warned away from Werewolf, so I've never seen it. big_smile BUT! I would like to see the Mystery Science Theater 3000 version of it big_smile lol

Re: Best/worst Werewolf moviesyouve seen

The '96 Werewolf is the only thing I can think of that gives Howling 7 a run for it's money as one of the most God-awful horrifyingly so-bad-it's-not-even-funny-it's-just-bad films ever.

The Goosebumps thing is okay considering it's a kid's show.

Werewolf of Washington is kinda fun. Especially with Elvira hosting.

Darkwolf I didn't think was as bad as most, but I've seen the '96 Werewolf and Howling 7 and after those anything looks at least tolerable.
