Hopkins Barks At The "Wolfman"
By Garth Franklin
Monday April 16th 2007 7:25am

Anthony Hopkins has revealed that he may well be
playiing the father of Benecio Del Toro in Universal's
upcoming redux of "The Wolfman".

He tells Rotten Tomatoes - "There's also a chance I
may play the Wolfman in London in a movie with Benicio
Del Toro...He said he just wants to make sure that the
deal is all in but I play the Wolfman's father in
Paris. A wonderful part."

He adds that his agent has the script and is very keen
for him to play the role, although he hasn't yet read
the script for himself.

The Wolfman is a remake of the 1941 classic The Wolf
Man starring Claude Rains and Bela Lugosi. It tells
the story of a man who is bitten by a werewolf and
turns into one himself.

Oh my wolfy gods. This is very cool... I hope it turns out great of course, there's little worse than being terribly let down by what could have been a good film. Okay so there is a lot worse. Not the point. big_smile

I cannot wait.

I love these boards already.

Re: The "new" Wolf Man movie

Big news about who will be doing the effects for this movie, courtesy of ShockTillYouDrop.com:

EXCL: Who's Creating the Wolfman?
Source: Ryan Rotten  September 6, 2007

The answer is a natural choice, when you come to think of it. He's built a career on uncanny werewolf and ape FX, Eddie Murphy blockbusters and other astonishing works including Hellboy, The Frighteners and The Ring. Plus, he's a six-time Oscar winner. So, take that.

Yes, friends, FX maestro Rick Baker is back on lycanthrope duties.

ShockTillYouDrop.com received word from within the walls of Universal that Baker is in the prepping stages of bringing The Wolfman to life in Mark Romanek's remake.

Shooting begins, based on a script by Andrew Kevin Walker, this December with a November 14, 2008 release on the horizon. Benicio Del Toro is playing the cursed eponymous role made famous by Lon Chaney, Jr. in 1941.

Baker's history of lycanthropy began, of course, with An American Werewolf in London and continued into "Thriller" (well, what that is Jackson turns into), "Werewolf" (the TV series), Wolf and Wes Craven's Cursed.

Rick Baker and Benicio Del Toro

There's a larger version on Aint It Cool where it points out that this is the
first time they met for the movie several months ago and Del Toro is
wearing NO MAKEUP.

Pretty obvious that a least for the face a minimalist look is all they'll need.

Re: The "new" Wolf Man movie

Do we know whether or not if Mark Romanek (the director) has opted for simple makeup, like in the original Wolfman, or is it going to be more of a merger of man and wolf, like in more recent films?

Re: The "new" Wolf Man movie

That's sweet knowing Rick Baker is going to do the effects for the werewolf.  What's interesting though is that its pointed out that he was on duty for Cursed.  Did he do just CGI effects, what the werewolves should look like, or minor physical effects?  Either way its still cool.

.........and if the Wolf Man remake is definitely going for a real rated R horror flick...just by looking at the pic a few posts up...they found their scary guy.  Del Toro gives me the creeps o.O

Re: The "new" Wolf Man movie

Benecio Del Toro is hot lol
But yeah he will make a great Wolfman. He's got that feral look.

Rick Baker on creature effects just makes me do a giddy little dance, it does.

Re: The "new" Wolf Man movie

The Wolf Man's got a new release date.  Here's the story:

Wolfman's Hairy Valentine
Source: Box Office Mojo -- October 10, 2007

February 13, 2009 (a Valentine's Day weekend) is the new release date for Universal Pictures' The Wolfman, a retelling of the 1941 classic to be directed by Mark Romanek. Benicio Del Toro stars in the leading role as Larry Talbot. Shooting will begin in January with Rick Baker handling monster FX.

That is a rather unusual release date for a werewolf movie... why not October 2009 ? hmm

But don't you think that Valentine's Day is an unusual release date for a werewolf movie, Snap Crack 'n' Chomp..unless it's about two werewolves in love.

Re: The "new" Wolf Man movie

Well Love is a strong theme in the story... urrm... kinda...  ^^

Actually yes, definately. Love is a good theme and to be honest for such a high profile movie putting it out during Halloween is a bit of an insult because it wont be a straight off HORROR, blood guts affair.

Ok ok ok.. I'm just saying that releasing a werewolf movie just before St.Valentine's Day is rather unusual. That's all.
