Re: Punxnotdead art

Okay, so I just finished a few pieces. The Lex Luthor one I'm not so thrilled about. sad He had a shadow descending upon the left half of his face, but the pencil didn't blend very well, so his face looks dirty. I'm really unhappy with it. Anyone have any suggestions for better blending?(I got the reference picture from "phantom" episode from season six.
I like my lion better.

Re: Punxnotdead art

looks like real shading to me, it doesn't look dirty at all, because where there is veins and muscles breaking the smooth surface, there is a shine, it may 'look' dirty, but it appears to be shading. does that help?

Re: Punxnotdead art

Do you start with shapes? Like circles and squares and stuff? My art teacher is trying to show me that.

Re: Punxnotdead art

I don't see anything wrong with the shading. The only suggestion I'd make is that it might benefit from more contrast. smile

Nope, I found that using shapes and grids don't really work for me. I use my pencil to measure (percisely) the size of every dimension of the picture (the width/lenth of the eyes, face nose etc...)

Ahh..must be natural skill! Sometimes I think I'll never get better at drawing, BUT-that's why it's for fun, not money! big_smile

It's surprisingly easier than you think. It just takes a long time to get the shape. Getting the shape is the most difficult part. I just entered my "world's ugglies dog" picture and a baby portrait into an art showcase for mother's day. Little did I know that my teacher is putting them up for sale!!! (50$) yikes I didn't think I was good enough, but I guess I was mistaken.

I never thought i was good at drawing, i seriously was no good, i'd draw something, and the next average Joe that came along had a better doodle than my 'constructive' drawing. I got disheartened, but it is really simple, it's just sometimes you need to get the hang of it smile I can show you some ways of how i do my things, I recently changed some drawings of mine from sketch with no shape construction, to using shapes, heck, i can really see the difference.

Re: Punxnotdead art

Here are a few more pieces. I played with the contrast on a few of them. I also took several different shots of the one werewolf to show the texture of the fur etc...This is the first werewolf I've drawn without a reference picture. I just envisioned it one night and began to draw. That's never happened to me before...
I also drew another baby portrait:

Except for that first picture which is way too dark to be seen clearly, they're all wonderful, punxnotdead !

Re: Punxnotdead art

the first picture could be good if used in the right way though, i know that there are a lot of pictures that people like that are too dark to discern properly, just because it's hard to tell what it really looks like

Re: Punxnotdead art

I just looked at the picture, and i can see the detail in it really clearly, i can't see why people can't see it.
