Re: learning to draw

I am interested in that too, I have some techniques that I invented myself, if you're interested though. They're pretty simple.

Re: learning to draw

I have looked before but found nothing particularly good.  I've just been practicing drawing cartoon characters to get a feel for how things go together.  You could try that.

Too true *****. I agree 100 % about everyone having their own style. You've gotta find your own way of seeing things.

Re: learning to draw

I agree with both of you, but do kids learn how to make cookies mummy's way, or their way? I mean that sometimes you need to copy other people's way of drawing until you can start you own style, sometimes you don't need to do that, but if you learn to see what should look like what, then you could really amplify your drawins by making them 'correctly'.

Re: learning to draw

Do you have any art stores near where you live (Michael's?) ? If you do, you'll almost certainly find any and all art books you're seeking. My only problem is that I get carried away with my spending. I spent almost 100 dollars the last time I went hmm

Re: learning to draw

In my experience, if you go to your local book store and sift through where they keep their art books, you are normally going to run across several 'how to draw' books. Some libraries will even have them. When I first got serious about drawing when I was younger, I used a 'how to draw managa/anime' book to learn how to get the proportioning for both animals and people right (both would come in handy in the case of drawing a werewolf). I'm not sure about how much they normally cost though because I bought mine in an elementary school book fair.

Re: learning to draw

I know Schuler books carries the walter foster how to draw books but I know he doesn't have on on anthros. What I would suggest is getting his book of the human figure, then his book on animals then meld the two. What is an anthro but a human formed body with the head claws and tail of the beast.

Re: learning to draw

I don't recall if she had a tutorial on her site but Goldenwolfen is worth checking out either way. Plenty of well-done werewolf art.

Re: learning to draw

I saw some pictures on YouTube of a rather good-looking how-to-draw-werewolves book.  I'm a little stumped on the matter myself, but I figure when I get un-lazy I'll do the same thing I did when I was learning to draw anthropomorphic shark people (thankfully, the character design has since been discarded, they were a pain to draw).  Jump on Google Image Search and plug in 'wolf', pick a few good pictures, and study the underlying structure of the bones beneath the skin.  If you can find pictures of wolf skeletons, even better.  If you can, print out a couple of pictures and trace the 'hard lines' of the body to help you get a feel for how each joint fits together.  Then do the same thing with the human body - believe it or not, porn works very well for learning to draw from.  No clothing to interfere with, and interesting poses to study.  Master the two different physiologies separately, THEN mingle the physical traits of both together.  Try to think about what would work, and what wouldn't.  For example, a human's mouth with a full set of wolf's teeth just wouldn't work, the teeth wouldn't fit in the jaw, so you'd have to find a way to combine the two structures that works logically.  Most of all, when in doube, just keep trying until it looks right.

I actually have that site bookmarked. I haven't really tried any of the tutorials, but I have it saved for a day when I'm less lazy and have a lot of time to spare
