Re: Dimenson Films threatens to remake American Werewolf

It really doesn't matter if they do it or not... yes, it's my favorite werewolf movie from all time, and I don't care.
What if they do a good version? Then I'll watch it and enjoy.
And if they do a terribly bad one? No problem, we still have the good old one.
In both cases, we don't have anything to lose, and perhaps this will encourage others to produce some more ww movies... what do you think?

I'll think they set up themself for fail, there's a reason why people say you should only do remakes of bad movies. smile

The problem is the movie will play in it's cost regardless of actual quality, that's why Hollywood loves to do remakes. But at least we will finally have a An American Werewolf in London that is equally bad as An American Werewolf in Paris.

Seriously? How many remakes does Hollywood need to do? I'd almost rather have a crappy original movie. I know of a few movies that were scrapped for various reasons and I think maybe they should take a chance and make those instead of remaking movies that don't need to be remade hmm That's just my opinion though

If you read the follow up at Ain't It Cool News, they say that it probably won't be a remake, but instead something in the same vein. Ie, American Werewolf in Paris, but say... in... Mumbai... tongue

Personally, I'd be pretty outraged if they did try to remake it. Why stuff around with something that was pretty much perfect?

Oh, it's going to be something like a "Junoon" remake then? tongue

I mean it's not as if Landis didn't have provided a nice sequel story for the original, it's just that American Werewolf is very much a child of it's time and I don't see Hollywood showing any aptitude in making that formula work again.

That's for sure, new times need new ideas.

The only way I'd trust this remake is if they gave it to Edgar Wright, director of Shaun of the Dead.

Re: Dimenson Films threatens to remake American Werewolf

I've never minded reinterpretation of horror films.  Next to maybe sci-fi or action films, they are the most creative genre to enjoy.  From an artist standpoint, it's a pleasure to see people attempt to create their own look and feel for a production.  Plus, it's still possible to recognize inspiring bits of originality in otherwise derivative content.

I'm looking forward to scrutinizing the werewolf design and transformation sequences they end up with.

Re: Dimenson Films threatens to remake American Werewolf

As far as I am concerned, Hollywood can remake as many movies as they want.  Advances in special effects and cinematography can only at worst turn something into eye candy, and at best make it more believable.  Either way, I like to see remakes of stuff I like.  Remake it now, and then remake it again in 20 more years.

Well, a decent sequel would be nice.
