Dark werewolf books...very dark

Has anyone here read Brian Easton's books When the Autumn Moon is Bright and heart of Scars? They're part of a series and I guess the only two that are out. Heart of Scars is the later one and it was just out in december. They're about a werewolf hunter but not like some of the others I've seen. Easton takes a very serious and realistic look at werewolves through the eyes of a seriously tormented and emotionally disturbed hunter. The writing is good and the storyline is interesting, but most importantly it creates a very dark mythology where werewolves are concerned. Both books are more about the hunter, Slyvester James, than from the werewolve's POV but I liked that because it gave a different vantage point from which to appreciate the werewolves. Both Easton's books are very dark and not for the faint of heart, and i don't mean just because of the blood and guts everywhere. These are of a serious adult nature and come closer to qualifying as true literature (especially the second one) than any book on the subject I've read in a long time. Amazon has a bunch of reviews on both of them and most everyone agrees with me that they rock hardcore, old school.

Serious adult nature?

Up to that part it did sound interesting, but usually when people start to use that phrase it's like them saying you might also buy a proper porn novel. :p

Both books currently have 5 out of 5 star ratings on amazon.com, so that's really good.

No, there's nothing really pornographic about them. It's just that the violence aspect goes beyond the norm and there are some blatently adult issues dealt with in the book, mostly in the areas of extreme crime and drug use. Plus, on a whole it is written with a lot of realistic geo-political details that's more along the line of a Tom Clancy novel than Kelly Armstrong.

I have read both novels and I certainly hope that the story of Sylvester Logan James does not end there. The books are two of the best werewolf novels I have ever read.
