Fear Itself: Something With Bite 7/31

http://www.nbc.com/Fear_Itself/index.shtml

THINGS GET HAIRY WHEN A VETERINARIAN GETS BITTEN BY A STRANGE ANIMAL – DIRECTED BY ERNEST DICKERSON (NBC'S "HEROES") - WRITTEN BY MAX LANDIS ("MASTERS OF HORROR") -- "Something With Bite," directed by Ernest Dickerson (NBC's "Heroes"), is a reinvention of the classic werewolf story from writer Max Landis ("Masters of Horror"), the son of John Landis ("An American Werewolf in London"). When a veterinarian (Wendell Pierce, "The Wire") gets bitten by a large, strange animal brought into his clinic, he begins to see the world and his stale life differently. Paula Jai Parker ("Side Order of Life," "The Proud Family"), Meshach Peters ("Eureka"), Kailin See ("The Assassination of Jesse James") and George Buza ("Diary of the Dead") also star.

Looks like it's a television series, punx, and I couldn't find when it comes out on the website, but apparently you can watch full episodes online.

It's a television show. check nbc.com i didn't see any werewolf episode up yet. Just a Wendigo (which wasn't really a Wendigo) sad

Hour long show. Think of mini scary movies. Or an Alfred hitchcock/Twilight Zone kinda deal without commentary. Ohhhhh and all bets are off sometimes the protaganists make it out alive and sometimes they don't. This is a really good terror show.

The one about the prison guy staying in the cell over the weekend. Freaked me OUTTTTT

I think you'll find that he was EXACTLY a Wendigo, as opposed to the Sasquatch-like portrayal that is usually attributed to the creature.

I thought that episode ("Skin and Bones") was awesome.  I also saw the New Year's Day episode about zombies, which was worth seeing.  I am anxious to see the werewolf episode.

You can watch the werewolf episode here:
http://www.casttv.com/shows/fear-itself … ite/12776h

Alas, there are no transformation scenes of interest, but the werewolf itself isn't bad-looking.

they're gonna post it when it never aired? Hmmm, crossing fingers, but I'll believe it when I see it. <Still crossing fingers though. Waited forever then the show got cancelled. At first I thought okay yeah this is a bit scary for regular tv, but then I hear regular tv had something called Creature Feature and stuff like that so...>

Another link, but you'll have to pardon the Chinese overlays and subtitles.

If you want to see the episode, Southpaw's link works. Kind of the standard werewolf story but humorous nonetheless and what little make-up you did see was professional.

Just watched it and really liked it. And not a bad looking critter for a one-off television episode.

thanks arclight. I just finished watching this. I don't see how this series got cancelled when they had monster theater and all that stuff from the 60s-90s. Maybe it should have been on Saturday late night???

A little too goofy for my taste - it wasn't actually funny - and pretty much a retread of "Wolf". The suit looked good, though.

yeah it was a bit goofy. I'd imagine b/c it was WAYYYYYY SCARY. Not all happy endings. How was it like "Wolf"? Oh b/c he was sleeping in?

Like "Wolf" in that being bitten by a werewolf improved his life.

It's a shame this show went off. We didn't even have the vampire story did we?

From another forum topic that was deleted (since this one already existed):

I'm astounded. I really wasn't expecting that quality. Fun story too.

If you're a werewolf fan and you haven't watched this yet, you're missing out.

I dunno, man. Looked like a bear to me ;P

For reals, thought, that was indeed a terrific looking werewolf. I liked the details of the grey-black gums.

WolfMontana wrote:

Indeed. The articulation of the jaws was impressive, the lips, and the folds of skin around the eyes. LOVED IT. I wonder if they decided to go pupil/iris-less on the critter to avoid that fake or 'dead' look you get with some animatronics' glass eyes. I'm not usually a fan of blank/blind eye looking makeup, but they showed up brilliantly against the dark face, and still somehow seemed 'alive'. smile

I really was quite astounded. The posture of the werewolf was great as it exploded into the room - just the right set of the head, lower against the shoulders, great movement of the body, and those freaking AWESOME and lifelike mechanics of the face.

... I need to go revise some lists big_smile

Didn't really like the wobbling, 'I'm having a happy seizure' prelude to his transformation much... but sweet work spending all the moolah on the final look and using a lovely, simple, shadow render of the change. It's been done before, but I really liked the final result.

Viergacht wrote:

I think the eyes worked out because the movement of the head was so good it gave the impression of "looking" without needing a literal pupil. Did you note it was the same suit performer as in Cursed? That fella is damn good.

WolfMontana wrote:

Seriously? Huh! I like this suit alot better than the Cursed suit, but that guy has some sweet moves. smile And I agree about the movement of the head. I'm trying to narrow down who exactly was responsible for the suit, because I see that work as being on the level of AWIL. Better than Howling for sure. Doesn't touch AWIL in terms of realism transformation wise, but in terms of the kind of werewolf look I like, beats it hands down.

WolfMontana wrote:

Here are some screenies of the werewolf, for those who are interested. Stills don't do it justice.

And someone from this list of credits was responsible... I'm thinking Howard & Greg?

Yes, it looks not very "realistic", but this is much better than bigger budget productions. And in movement it gains a lot smile.

Well, in an overall point of view, and watching it in movement you can't see some details, but when the camera is focused on his head, it is clear that it lacks of "organic" flavor... it appears clearly as a mask to me (yes, yes, it IS a mask tongue). But yes, you're right, it is one of the most realistic werewolves we've ever seen.
