barrabas

Barrabas

The end of a life
    The work of my hand
To take from this world
    An innocent man
The cost of my crimes
I did not have to pay
In despondence I saw
    That God made a way

They cry for my freedom
    They say “let him go”
They want to crucify him
    A man I don’t know
They beat him and slap him
    And spit in his face
They treat him as though
    He’s a disgrace

No malice or anger
Do I see in his eyes
Just love for the people
As he hangs there and dies
He says he forgives them
    Which struck me as odd
But then I realized
This is the Son of God
The end of a life
    The work of my hand
To take from this world
    Such an innocent man

Re: barrabas

Perfect poem!  Love the allegory you chose of that particular event.  It made me feel like I was there.  Keep writing!
