Solstice Lunar Eclipse! :)

This is pretty cool, and apologies if it's already been posted:

Tonight (or rather, early Tuesday morning) for U.S. folks at 1:33am eastern standard time, a rather special lunar eclipse will occur - the first one to coincide with the winter solstice since 1638,  372 years ago! big_smile

Here's a cool website with an awesome animation and cool star maps: http://shadowandsubstance.com/

Anyone else going to brave sleepiness and winter chills to see it? smile

Yep, I'll be outside with my camera for sure.  Hopefully, it won't get cloudy in this area.

You can always check here, just pick a place on the right under the map thing, then look at the squares for cloud cover, darker means less clouds. This is a really good site for star watching smile

Re: Solstice Lunar Eclipse! :)

I caught a glimpse of it outside of my apt, but then I made the mistake of trying to drive to a better location to see it more clearly.  Cloud coverage rolled in and squashed that plan.  It was very neat for the 5 minutes I saw it though lol.

I saw most of it. It was neat. Guy I was watching it with goes, "I guess this kind of thing really confuses you werewolves. It's supposed to be a full moon, and then suddenly it's gone." I facepalmed, literally.

I missed the first part because of clouds, but then it cleared up and I got the see the last half hour in perfect clarity. The way the snow turned pink in the red moon glow was epically surreal.

Wow. I wish we'd had snow here, that would have been something smile The brown/orange smudge of the moon was surreal indeed.
