Blood Bounty REV2

First for those who read the original, I rewrote the plot so it has required a story rewrite, it would almost stand alone but it does still wrap up with Wolf's Release, but not Man Eaters, that will require an eventual rewrite as well.  Because of all this I'm starting fresh.  I think I'm going to put this on a website soon because I need a new laptop and it'd be nice for a place people can donate to.  I can do commission writing as well, and screenplays.  I know commission writing...but if you've read some fantasy magazines I assure you my works are in them.  My writing style is all my own and while it may not be entirely fluid in story, that has more to do with pushing the reader into the mind and feelings of the characters than if you were say part of the group or outside looking in.  IF you have suggestions or questions as I write this out again here first, let me know.

Blood Bounty

Rev 2

Book one of the Wolff Chronicles

Prologue

It's been a few years now, but the events writ in history then are infamous now.  It has lead to a revolution of sorts, a multiplier of the civil rights movement 50 years ago.  This is that story and my name is Grey Shane Wolff, feel that awful irony.  Fifteen years ago I was a young officer in the United States Army, one night of leave changed everything, it changed my sister, her unborn children and me.  A viscous attack had shattered everything we knew, destroying my life and leaving me with new unwanted gifts.  I've done everything I can to rid myself of the wolf, but his blood runs thick in my veins, torturing my attempts at normalcy.

I am a Saint Peter Wolf, whether I want to be or not.

Chapter 1

U.S Marshal Service, South Central Wisconsin branch office

It's one of those things, my life has been a roller coaster of being a protector.  I tried my hand at the Army, a bite took that away, I tried local PD, resigned after my second year as a junior detective.  Now, having graduated Marshal's academy last year here I am again, playing the role of the great protector, keeping a watchful eye, escorting witnesses and federal judges.  It's an alright job but life never ceases to throw me a curve ball.
Stepping into his office I knew the regional director had nothing but malicious intent with this meeting.  I hadn't made it two feet into his office before he shut the door behind me and directed me to a seat.  I waited until he sat before I obliged my own seat.
“Deputy Marshal Wolff, your up to this point exemplary service is what will save your skin today.  You have been reassigned, western district of Louisiana effective immediately, pack your effects  a crew will move your household goods for you, be on a plane for Baton Rouge in the morning, they've got a hell of a caseload down there so don't keep them waiting.”
    “Uhm, yes sir.”
“That's it deputy, please escort yourself out, and try to stay out of any Mexican stand offs while your there hmm?”
    “It was justified.”
    “Tell fox 6 news that.”
“I would but you've recommended otherwise sir.”
I got up, nodded and turned on my heel out the door.  The room dropped fifty degrees as the pressure fell off my shoulders.  If I had to guess, shooting RayRay should have gotten me canned, even though he did pull on me first.  A high profile case requires discretion, and I have never been known for such things, the wolf has seen to that.

Re: Blood Bounty REV2

Six hours later I was packed, sitting inside an airport tavern at Chicago's O'Hare waiting for my flight to board, as usual it was late.  I was working on my third drink when a familiar scent passed behind me.  I turned when a man sat next to me.  He smiled briefly before he ordered himself a beer.  Only then did he address me directly.
“I heard about your reassignment Grey, I wanted to extend apologies and to let you know I contacted the local alpha in the area to tell him he won't have to worry about you in his territory.”
“Greg, I'm fine, you didn't have to do that, if he was so concerned he'd pull his strings and I wouldn't be reassigned to Louisiana, I'd have lost my job entirely.”
“Look at it this way, you'll get the chance to meet new people, and the food is great.” that itself gave my stomach a reason to protest against me, yet again for ignoring my constant need for nourishment.  I figured I could grab something on my way to the plane...now I would have to.
“Greg, really this would never have happened if it wasn't for the wolf, I should have had more control.”
“He was a psychopath and he killed women, you shot him for it, what isn't right about that?  You can't blame that on the wolf, are you going to tell me you didn't want to pull that trigger?”
“It's my job to bring him in, I let that very thing get to me, I can't be doing this job if I get caught up in this shite.  It's just another reason why I don't fit anywhere anymore.”
“You save people Grey, it's never going to get easier, it will never be a cakewalk and the line is always blurred, do what you can and sleep well at night.”

Now boarding flight 1032 to Houston, flight 1032 now boarding to Houston.

“I gotta go, tell Jay to take care of my truck.”
“Will do, take it easy Grey.” Greg put a hand on my shoulder after he dropped a ten on the bar, he got up without another word and disappeared in the space of a second.  Alphas could do things like that, it's what made them powerful.
I scooped up my bag and made sure my claim tickets were in order.  I met with the air marshal before boarding, it's policy for any federal officer to identify himself to the air marshal before boarding, tactically it's to ensure we know where the other is if anything got out of hand.
“Evening Marshal Wolff, can I see your credentials?” I pulled out my wallet, he examined the badge then the ID.  Handing it back to me he nodded.  He took a too long look at my burger king bag. “Hungry? You know they serve a snack during the flight, it's only a two and a half hour flight anyways.”
    “I have high metabolism.”
“I guess so, by the way, I can smell the alcohol.”
    “I'm not on duty.”
“Your not supposed to have your sidearm on a plane if your not on duty.”
“Oh well, is it going to be a problem?” I gave him a hard piercing look, for a human he was brave, but the gaze pulled away quickly enough.”
“No, no it isn't, enjoy the flight.”
I nodded and walked around him, walking down the service hallway behind the rotunda where we met, marshals keep the identities during flights secret.  I came out next to the bathrooms, and walked down to my gate, I gave the attendant my boarding pass and got onto the plane.
I hadn't even sat down before my cell phone rang.  I didn't even look at the caller ID before answering.  “Hello?”
    “Marshal Wolff?”
“This is, who may I ask is calling?”
“This is Deputy chief Wilkerson at the Baton Rouge office, I called to tell you your car will be waiting for you in the parking garage pick up your keys from the Hertz counter it's all been arranged, I've got a prison transport for you as soon as your off the plane so don't dawdle, call back when your off the plane, I'll give you the information on your transport then.”  I sighed and hung up the phone, this was going to be the longest night in history.  And shite duty right off the bat...it almost seem like I got a demotion to go with a transfer.
I reclined my seat, shut off my phone like I was supposed to and shoved my carry on under the seat.  Closing my eyes for just a moment before the smell of a warm burger reminded me of another need.  I had chowed down on the burger so fast it was amazing I hadn't accidentally chomped down on a finger.
