Re: Famous French Werewolf: The Beast of Le Gevaudan

I found the Monster Quest conclusion that the Beast of Le Gevaudan was a hyena pretty lame. I suppose a pack of hyenas can be dangerous, but a single one could probably be chased away with a stick -- NOT capable of the kind of incredible killing spree detailed in the historical accounts. But at least that's an animal whose appearance would be puzzling to the French countryfolk. As Moonlit Hunter points out, a bear would be something they'd easily recognize.

Re: Famous French Werewolf: The Beast of Le Gevaudan

La bête du gévaudan was a hyena captured from Africa.  that guy, Jean, was deranged. he was made fun of since he had a mental disability and since he was thrown out of the church, he started training the hyena to attack the women & children and for him to get praise (since everyone there started the whole werewolf thing) he got a "silver" bullet and shot it once, when it supposedly started charging at him, which it wasn't true.

i wasn't designed to handle the worst and i'm not convinced that loving someone is worth it...

This is one of my favorite legends.

That's pretty crazy, I haven't read a lot of "True" (real life) werewolf stories.
